Georgetown Hoyas vs. Illinois Fighting Illini
NCAAB: Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at 8:30 PM EST
Georgetown hits the road to face Illinois in the Gavitt Tipoff games and the Hoyas look to start the season at 3-0. Will this be like last season’s Georgetown squad? Last season they played a cream-puff pre-conference schedule, but then faded once the Big East began. This season the Hoyas play a little tougher early-season schedule, but not much and they only face two teams from major conferences before conference play starts and this is one of them.
Illinois won their season opener in a blowout facing Evansville where they blew them out winning by 39 points. They were only 14-18 last season, but have high hopes and the talent this season that may propel them to a winning record. Unlike Georgetown, the Fighting Illini play a very tough non-conference schedule and after this game, they face 3rd ranked Gonzaga.
These teams have not faced off since the 2005 season.
It helps to get to the charity stripe
In their last game, Georgetown was at home and while they had similar stats as Central Connecticut in the 85-78 win they had 10 points from the free throw line while The Blue Devils only had 10. The Hoyas shot 45.8% from the floor and they allowed CC to shoot 48.3%, but GT also had four fewer turnovers. Four of five Georgetown starters had double figures in the game and they were led by Jessie Govan, who went for 26 points and was 10/13 from the field. He also led the team with eight rebounds and the freshman G duo of Matthew McClung and James Akinjo combined for 17 points, but they only combined to shoot 4/20 from the floor.

Govan is the leading scorer after two games and he doubled his first game in the win over CC going for 26 after going for 13 on 5/7 shooting in the season opener.
Not a bad first half
In their season opener Illinois was at home and they laid a 99-60 beat down on Evansville where they outscored them 53-22 in the first half. For the game the Illini were legit on both ends of the floor shooting 56.3% from the floor and they not only held Evansville to 37.7% shooting, but they also forced 24 turnovers. Four of five starters for Illinois scored in double figures led by Ayo Dosunmu, who went for 18 points and Andres Feliz came off the bench to go for 16 points. Giorgi Bezhanishvili led the team with 10 boards and he and Aaron Jordan combined for 26 points and 17 rebounds. The Fighting Illinli have a pressuring defense that can force a lot of turnovers and that can spell trouble for Georgetown, who starts two freshman guards.
The Illinois Fighting Illini are:
- 5-1 ATS in their last 6 vs. Big East
- 9-3-3 ATS in their last 15 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points
The Georgetown Hoyas are:
- 0-7 ATS in their last 7 games overall
- 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games vs. a team with a winning straight up record
- 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following a ATS loss
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Georgetown has won their first two games, but failed to cover in either of them. They have failed to cover the spread in their last seven games overall while Illinois has covered in five of their last six games facing teams from the Big East. Illinois will play solid defense in this game and while it will be pretty close on their home floor they will get the W and cover the spread.
Prediction: PICK: Illinois
Full-Game Total Pick
Illinois lit up the scoreboard in their season opening win, but they will win this game with their defense. They forced 24 turnovers in their first game and their D will keep the Hoyas in check. Take the Under in this game, as it will be a low scoring affair from both teams.
Prediction: PICK: Under
