Charleston Cougars vs. Marshall Thundering Herd
Where and when: Cam Henderson Center, Huntington, West Virginia, Tuesday, 7 pm EST
The Charleston Cougars will travel to the Cam Henderson Center in Huntington, West Virginia, to face the Marshall Thundering Herd on Tuesday night at 7 pm EST. This will be the first-ever meeting amongst these two squads while Covers.com has this matchup as a pick-em game with the total being set at 148 points.
Cougars look to get back on winning trackThe Cougars are coming off their first loss of the year to the Cowboys of Oklahoma State on November 13th, as the visitors outscored Charleston 43-24 in the second half after a 30-all halftime tie. The Cougars continued their dismal shooting on the year in converting just 33% of their shots from the field in addition to going a horrible 5-27 from long-range. Grant Riller along with Jacob McManus were the only double-digit scorers with 18 and 16 points, respectively, while going a combined 11-27 from the floor on the night.
Riller is averaging 22 points per game while posting 5 assists for a Cougars squad that has shot just 42% from the field on the season. The senior guard will need to bring the focus for this matchup as the Thundering Herd has caused headaches for their competition early in 2019 in allowing under 40% shooting along with 69 points per outing. This will be the first road contest of the year for the Cougars as they are 7-5 SU along with 6-6 ATS in their last 12 games away from home.
Thundering Herd solid on the defensive endThe Marshall Thundering Herd is 1-1 SU at home this year in addition to being 0-2 versus the number. In their last home game, they were pounced by the Toledo Rockets after allowing over 50% shooting. To make matters worse, the Thundering Herd continued their shaky shooting in converting only 43% while going 6-27 from long-range. They followed this effort up with a much better defensive effort versus the Notre Dame Fighting Irish in allowing just 32% shooting (25% 3FG) while the offense shot a tad better at 40% while continuing to struggle from the three-point arc (4-22).
“We need a big crowd tomorrow night and we hope to see everyone there,” D’Antoni said before closing out the show! See you tomorrow! #HerdFamily— Marshall Men’s Basketball (@HerdMBB) November 19, 2019
Junior guard Jerrod West leads the team with 18 points per game in addition to sophomore guard Taevion Kinsey averaging 16 points per game alongside 6 rebounds and 4 dimes. Finally, Cam Brooks-Harris is the defensive stopper for the Thundering Herd as the sophomore is averaging 8 boards and 5 points in 2019. West and company certainly seeks more consistency moving forward, however, they may run into their fair share of issues in facing a Charleston team that has allowed just 43% shooting to opponents in 2019. Furthermore, Marshall happens to be 6-1 SU along with 3-4 ATS in their last seven road games.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will back the Thundering Herd in this contest as the Cougars continue to worry me on the offensive end. Furthermore, the Cougars have been not so great against the spread in their last 8 road games, overall, thus allowing me to feel as though Marshall will continue their dominance at Cam Henderson on Tuesday night. Also, the Thundering Herd possesses a solid defensive unit that has really gotten after opponents all season. With Charleston not shooting well from the floor, they will find it even more difficult to locate scoring opportunities versus this Marshall squad.
Prediction: Marshall Thundering Herd (pk)
Full-Game Total Pick
The under has been the play in six of the last seven games for the Thundering Herd while also being the result in five of the last six games for Charleston. Furthermore, each of these defenses have been stingy on the year in allowing under 70 points per game. In all, look for this contest to be a low-scoring, competitive affair to where the total will not surpass its mark of 148 points. Again, the defenses will take center stage for this showdown with the Thundering Herd dominating the Cougars offense to pick up a huge victory.
Prediction: Under 148
