Wednesday night hoop action in the Constant Convocation Center features a historical match between the James Madison Dukes and the Old Dominion Monarchs. This is the 78th time these teams have met on the basketball court, with the Monarchs owning a 51-26 record against the Dukes. James Madison's efforts fell short against George Mason last time around and Old Dominion beat Northeastern for their third straight win. The Monarchs are listed as ten and a half point favorites and the total is listed at 132 and a half at the time of writing. Tip is set for 7:05 PM ET.
Dukes Fall To PatriotsJames Madison caught a rough break last game, falling to George Mason 83-70. The Dukes never trailed by more than two possessions until they hit a dry spell offensively late in the game. Matt Lewis led the team with 19 points and Julien Wooden had 17 points from the bench in the losing effort. "Not the result we were looking for tonight, but I was proud of the way our guys battled. They came into a tough place to play and fought the way we asked them to," said coach Louis Rowe.
The Dukes offensive attack is led by Lewis with 15.5 points and nine rebounds per game. Zach Jacobs scores 11.3 points with 9.5 rebounds per night. Michael Christmas contributes 9.8 points with 9.5 rebounds per contest as well. James Madison crashes the glass well, grabbing 45.5 rebounds a game. They roll out usually either an eight or nine-man rotation with six of their players seeing 20+ minutes of playing time.
Monarchs Rolling EarlyOld Dominion beat Northeastern last game 76-69 to earn their coach, Jeff Jones, his 500th career victory. Xavier Green put up a career-high 24 points to lead the Monarchs to their third straight victory. Jason Wade also had a career-high with 18 points on the night. "I am extremely pleased with how we played. 500 wins is great, but getting win number three for this season on the road against a good opponent is even better," said coach Jones.
Green leads the offensive attack for Old Dominion with 16.5 points per contest. Wade is having a good season, scoring 12.8 points a game and Malik Curry averages 11.5 points per night as well. Aaron Carver has been a menace on the boards, snagging 11.5 of them a game, but he isn't much of an offensive threat, only scoring four points a night. The Monarchs roll out a nine-man rotation with only five of their players seeing 20+ minutes. They rebound well as a unit, grabbing 42.3 of them per contest.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I like the Monarchs to cover this double-figure spread Wednesday night. Old Dominion has whipped things into shape after dropping their first contest of the season. They have dominated this match-up between these schools historically and have won the past three years as well, winning the past two by more than double-digits. Both times the Dukes have played against a better team than them, they've been blown out and I expect the same to happen here. The Monarchs have a very good coach at the helm in Jeff Jones. He knows how to win ball games, and his team should be in high morale after grabbing their coach's 500th win last game. I'll back Old Dominion to continue their recent trend of domination over the Dukes and cover this spread.
Prediction: Old Dominion Monarchs -10.5
Full-Game Total Pick
This is a match-up that is historically a low-scoring, hard fought defensive battle. Seven of the last ten times these schools have met have gone under. All of the trends from the Monarchs point towards the under as well. Both teams are towards the top of the country in rebounding, but they are middle of the pack in every other offensive category. These schools are holding opponents to only 129 points per game between the two of them as both have played very good defensively. The pace of this contest should be moderate as James Madison is in the top third in the country in pace-of-play and Old Dominion attempts to slow the pace and are in the bottom third of the country. I will back the under and ride the trends for this contest.
Prediction: Under 132.5
