Monday night college basketball action in the Williams Arena features a game between the Clemson Tigers and the Minnesota Golden Gophers. This contest will be a part of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge, of which the ACC owns a 12-5-3 record in past years of this event. This will be the eighth meeting all-time between these two schools, with the Golden Gophers winning the previous contest 89-83 during the '15-'16 campaign. Clemson fell to Colorado and Minnesota dropped a contest to DePaul in their previous games. Tip is set for 9:05 PM ET for this exciting showdown.
Clemson's Win Streak SnappedClemson's efforts in the MGM Resorts Main Event Tournament championship came up short versus Colorado as they lost 71-67, ending their winning streak at five. The Tigers held a 36-33 lead at halftime, but were outplayed in the second half by the Buffaloes. Clemson lost the rebounding battle which was the only big difference on the stats-sheet, allowing Colorado to snag 32 boards to only 24 themselves. Aamir Simms led the team with 23 points in the losing effort. Tevin Mack contributed 11 points and nine rebounds as well on the night.
The Tigers offense is led by Mack with 15.4 points per contest. Simms puts up 11.9 points with 8.9 rebounds a night. John Newman III contributes 11.6 points and Al-Amir Dawes averages 10.1 points per game as well. Clemson grabs 34.7 rebounds per contest and they shoot 44.5% from the field with 35.1% from three-point range. They commit 12.1 turnovers a game and the make 68.7% of their free throws.
Golden Gophers Fall to DePaulMinnesota dropped their previous contest against DePaul 73-68 this past Friday. Daniel Oturu led the team with 19 points and 18 rebounds in an outstanding effort. Payton Willis had 16 points and Alihan Demir put up 14 points as well. Depth is a huge issue for the Golden Gophers this season, as their five starters are on the court for a majority of the game. Their 3-4 record does not do this team justice, as three of their four losses have been against schools from Power Five conferences and the fourth being to a solid Butler team.
This Minnesota offense is led by Oturu with 17 points and 11.9 rebounds per contest. Marcus Carr puts up 13 points and 5.9 rebounds a night. Willis scores 12.9 points and Gabe Kalscheur averages 11.7 points per game as well. The Golden Gophers snag 39.7 boards per night and they shoot 42.6% from the field with 35.2% from deep. They commit 13.6 turnovers per contest and they make 61% of their free throws.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I love the Tigers in this opening day contest of the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. I believe that odds-makers have the wrong team favored in this game as Clemson seems to me to be the better team. Depth has been a huge issue for Minnesota and that will continue to haunt them in this game as the Tigers roll out between a seven-man to nine-man rotation with seven of those players seeing at least 14 minutes of playing time. Clemson's offense outscores the Golden Gophers' by three points and their defense is holding opponents to two points less per contest as well. I am playing the Tigers with extreme confidence and free points with a team that I believe will win is a gift.
Prediction: Clemson Tigers +3
Full-Game Total Pick
This is a contest that I expect should be a relatively low-scoring affair. These two defenses have combined to hold their opponents to only 124.4 points per game thus far this season. Neither of these offenses are overly flashy, as they both rank towards the middle of the country. Minnesota has played seven contests this year, and six of them have played to the under. Five of the Clemson Tigers' last six road games have played to the under as well. I am backing the under in a contest that I expect will be a very sluggish, hard-fought game between these two teams that strive off of their defenses.
Prediction: Over 131
