The Arkansas State Red Wolves meet the Ole Miss Rebels for a nice NCAA basketball matchup. The Red Wolves are coming off a 13-19 season and 7-11 record in the Sun Belt Conference. Ole Miss had a terrific 20-13 record and went 10-8 in Southeastern Conference (SEC) play last season.
Arkansas State Upends Arkansas-MonticelloArkansas State opened its season in high fashion, defeating Arkansas-Monticello by a score of 65-49. Junior forward J.J. Matthews recorded his first career double-double with 10 points and 10 rebound night. Senior guard Canberk Kus scored 17 points with seven rebounds alongside four assists and junior guard Marquis Eaton chipped in with 11 points to go along with seven rebounds with three assists. The Red Wolves shot 46.6 percent from the field, 26.3 percent from beyond the arc and 35.3 percent from the charity stripe.
The Red Hawks lost Sun Belt Conference-leading scorer Ty Cockfield Jr, and his 24 points per game will be difficult to replace. Senior guard Jerry Johnson Jr transferred from Chattanooga and was supposed to pick up the scoring slack but managed nine minutes and found his way on the stat sheet with two turnovers. Senior forward Malik Brevard is also being counted on to have a big season and scored four points with four rebounds and one assist over 21 minutes.
Bigger Things Ahead for Ole Miss?Ole Miss had a terrific 2019 season and this year the squad might look a bit different, with seven players playing prominent roles who haven’t played a minute for Mississippi prior to this season. Guards Devontae Shuler and last seasons SEC leading scorer Breein Tyree returned to school after dropping their names in the NBA hat and these two are going to wreak havoc in the SEC this season. Tyree averaged 17.9 points per game and Shuler average 10.3 points per game and stuffed the stat sheet in several categories.
Ole Miss averaged 73 points per game last season while shooting 45 percent from the floor, 35 percent from long range and third in the country 85 percent from the charity stripe. The Rebels averaged 34.3 rebounds, 14.3 assists, 7.4 steals and committed 12 turnovers per game last season.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Mississippi is playing at home with the SEC leading scorer as well as his backcourt mate returning for their senior seasons. The second-leading rebounder from last season as well as the top assist man is all back and up against an Arkansas State team that lost its top scorer to graduation and is desperately trying to find someone to take his place. Mississippi should be the better rebounding team and hopefully, they’ll turn the ball over less this season than they did last year.
I will take Mississippi to win this game.
Prediction: Ole Miss
Full-Game Total Pick
The line hasn't been posted yet and I suspect we'll see at least 140 points in this game. Its the season opener for Ole Miss and Arkansas State has already had one game and they won't be as nervous as the Rebels might be. Trying to figure out who will stop the Rebels backcourt and I can't think of one. This early in the season expect coaches to use bigger rotations in the hope they can find eight to nine players that they can count on so that usually keeps the score down.
I will play OVER in this game.
