The Texas A&M Aggies will be trying to stay perfect at home when they face the UC Irvine Anteaters in a non-conference matchup on Friday night.
Anteaters Trying To Make Statement
The Anteaters were a win away from making the NCAA tournament last season but lost to Cal State Fullerton in the Big West Tournament. This season, the team is hoping they have what it takes to make the tournament and will be trying to make a statement with a win over the Aggies.

In their last game, the Anteaters defeated Idaho handily 86-68. They held the Vandals to 43.6 percent shooting from the field and 44 percent from three-point range. Jared Rodriguez led the way for Idaho with 18 points and five rebounds, and fellow freshman Cameron Tyson finished with 17 points for the Vandals, who finished the game with only two players scoring in double figures.
The Anteaters did a great job on the offensive end, shooting 54 percent from the field and 40 percent from three-point range.
Eyassu Worku led the way with 18 points and six assists. John Edgar Jr. finished with 14 points, while Max Hazzard added 11 points and five assists for the Anteaters, who finished the game with three players scoring in double figures.
If the team plays like they did against the Vandals, they should be able to come away with the win on Friday night.
Aggies Need To Improve Defensively
The Aggies won their first game of the season against Savannah State, but they didn’t look good on the defensive end in their 98-83 win. They will need to play better on defense this season if they want to win the SEC.
Savannah State finished the game shooting 32.9 percent from the field and 31.5 percent from three-point range, but they still managed to score 83 points because the Aggies struggled with their perimeter defense.

Freshman guard Collins Joseph torched the Aggies for 20 points off the bench. Zaquavian Smith scored 13 points, while Jaquan Dotson added 13 points and seven rebounds.
Offensively, the Aggies picked up where they left off last season. The team shot 45.7 percent from the field, but struggled from distance, shooting 21.1 percent from three-point range.
Savion Flagg led the way for Texas A&M with 24 points and 16 rebounds. TJ Starks finished with 16 points, five rebounds, and five assists, while Jay Jay Chandler added 11 points and five rebounds for the Aggies, who finished with five players scoring in double figures.
With the Aggies going on the road to take on Gonzaga next, they can’t afford to overlook the Anteaters if they don’t want to suffer their first loss of the season.
