The Long Beach State 49ers travel down the road to take on UCLA. This is the first game of the season for the 49ers and UCLA is coming off a 96-71 victory over Fort Wayne.
Long Beach Will Compete this Season
This is the 49ers first game of the 2018-2019 season and are coming off a 15-18 season and finished the Big West Conference with a winning record of nine wins and seven losses. Returning from that team are Big West All-Conference performers, Senior center Temidayo Yussuf and Senior guard Deishaun Booker were both All-Big West honorable mention performers and Head Coach Dan Monson will be relying heavily on these two as well as Senior guard Bryan Alberts and Senior forward Mason Riggins.

Last season the 49ers shot 45 percent from the floor, 35 percent from beyond the arc and 72 percent from the free throw line. Long Beach State committed an average of 15 turnovers per game and teams shot 52 percent from the floor and 37 percent from long range.
Moses Brown is a Beast
Seven foot one inch Freshman Moses Brown completely dominated Fort Wayne with a 19 point, 17 rebound performance and the Bruins crushed Fort Wayne 96-71. Sophomore guard Kris Wilkes scored 27 points and Sophomore guard Jaylen Hands scored 17 points and added seven assists. UCLA shot 54 percent from the floor, 32 percent from beyond the arc and just 47 percent from the Free Throw line. The Bruins defense allowed Fort Wayne to shoot 36.6 percent from the floor, 24 percent from long range and 58 percent from the free throw line.
“Yeah, I’ve been waiting for this all summer, the season opener. I’ve been looking at the schedule and marking it down day-by-day, and we finally got out and did it.”

Last season the Bruins finished 21-12 and 11-7 in the Pac-12 and shot 46 percent from the floor, 38 percent from long range and 72 percent from the line. Opponents shot 47 percent from the field and 34 percent from beyond the arc. It will be interesting to watch how UCLA fares on the defensive side of the ball this season.
- Bruins are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 vs. Big West.
- Bruins are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 home games.
- 49ers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Who on Long Beach State is going to stop Moses Brown? That will be your question every single time you handicap a Bruins game this season. The answer is no one on Friday night other than Bruins Head Coach Steve Alford is going to stop Moses Brown. He’s a problem on both ends of the floor and while I’m not exactly a big fan of the rest of the Bruins team, they should handily cover this spread at home Friday night. I will play UCLA!!
Prediction: UCLA -15.5
Full-Game Total Pick
I don’t see much defense being played on Friday night by either team. UCLA has much more experienced players than the 49ers have and that’s going to make a difference. I like both benches and these games are how those bench players make rotations so I expect, when this game is over score-wise, both teams loaded with young fellas atre going to show out. I will play the over on Friday night.
Prediction: Over 157 Points
