IUPUI Jaguars vs. Bradley Braves
NCAAB: Saturday November 10, 2019 at 8:00 PM EST
This is the 2nd game of the season for both of these teams, who each lost their season opener. IUPUI looks to get over their opener where they were crushed by Butler and only scored 47 points. Scoring will be an issue for the Jaguars this season and they hope to get that part of their club going in this game facing a Bradley team that gave up 86 points in their first game.
Bradley lost to an upstart St. Joseph’s team in their season opener in a pretty close game.

The team won the Missouri Valley Conference tournament last season and lost to powerhouse Michigan State in the first round of the Big Dance. The Braves were led by a great defense last season, but that D did not carry over to the first game of the season in their 86-81 loss to St. Joe’s.
These teams met last season at IUPUI where the Braves beat the Jaguars 85-73.
Get over bad gameIUPUI looks to get over their bad opener in the 80-47 loss to Butler where they struggled on both ends of the floor. They only shot 36.8% from the field while allowing Butler to shoot 59.3%. They were ice cold from deep missing 18 of their 21 3-pointers and they were outscored by 23 points in the 2nd half. Markus Burk was the only Jaguars’ player to go for double figures in the game with 17 points on 7/21 shooting and he missed nine of his 11 3-pointers. Jaylen Minnett was the only returning player that averaged in double figures last season and he struggled, big time, in the loss to Butler only going for seven points on 3/12 shooting.
The Jaguars simply looked bad in the season opener missing a ton of shots and their defense was poor. They have to shore things up in this game facing a solid Bradley team that is smarting after their opening game loss. IUPUI was on the road in their loss to Butler and they have failed to cover the spread in seven of their last eight road games.
Free throws hurtIn their 86-81 loss to St. Joseph’s in their season opener the stat line looked good for the Braves with one exception from the free-throw line. They had 12 points from the charity stripe while giving up 28 and that hurt since they had eight more offensive rebounds and St. Joseph’s missed 25 of their 31 3-pointers. Bradley played solid overall D holding the Hawks to 41.9% shooting, but they only shot 39% from the floor. Give players for Bradley scored in double figures in the loss to St. Joseph’s but Koch Bar (13 points) was the only one that shot over 50% from the field. Darrell Brown led the team with 17 points on 5/13 shooting and Nate Kennell scored 15 points on 5/11 shooting.
The Braves have to be more aggressive in this game getting to the rack and to the charity stripe. Their loss to St. Joe’s was on the road and last season the Braves were 10-6 at home.

According to the betting trends from Covers.com the IUPUI Jaguars are:
- 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games overall
- 1-7 ATS in their last 8 road games
- 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Bradley is back at home and takes on an IUPUI team that was crushed in their last game. The Jaguars could get nothing going in their loss to Butler and while Butler is a solid team, they failed to make the Big Dance last season while Bradley did. The Braves ranked a legit 35th in the nation in last season in opponents’ points allowed and even giving up 86 points in their season opener their D was not bad. It will be great in this game, as they will shut down the Jaguars. In their home opener, Bradley will lay a beat down on IUPUI easily winning and covering the spread.
Full-Game Total Pick
While Bradley is a team that is led by their defense they scored 81 points in their season-opener even though they failed to shoot over 40% from the floor. They will play great D again and shoot a better FG% against a Jaguars' team that played bad D in their blowout loss in their opener. Many of the betting trends for each team point to the Under in this game but Bradley has an Over record of 6-2-1 in their last nine non-conference games. I look for that trend to continue, as while they will play good defense their offense will light it up and the total for this game will go Over.
