Texas State Bobcats vs. Air Force Falcons
Where and when: Clune Arena, Colorado Springs, Colorado, Saturday, 4 pm EST
The undefeated Texas State Bobcats travel to Clune Arena in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to face the Air Force Falcons on Saturday afternoon at 4 pm EST. These teams have met twice since 2017 with both picking up road victories while going 1-1 ATS during this time.
The Bobcats could not miss the basket in a blowout victory in their opener versus the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs last Tuesday in posting 103 points while shooting 58% from the floor (50% 3FG). They may indeed continue their stellar shooting with the Falcons allowing 50% shooting to their opening opponent in the Idaho State Bengals on Thursday night (41% 3FG). However, a huge key to this game will be whether Air Force can continue its hot shooting versus a Bobcats defense that allowed only 23% shooting to the Bulldogs (19% 3FG).
Big game for Terry in openerSenior Eric Terry (9 ppg in 2018) stepped up big for Texas State in leading the team with 19 points versus Texas Lutheran. As an added bonus, the Bobcats had two freshmen to also step up in their first college game in Isaiah Small (18 points, 9 rebounds) along with Deshawn Davidson (11 points). For a team that finished fourth-place in the Sun Belt last season in addition to winning 24 games (12-6 in Sun Belt), their start could not have been better.
Coach Danny Kaspar picked up his 99th win with the program while praising his team’s performance to begin their 2019 campaign. Kaspar was also pleased with the crowd on this night. Last year we would not have won 24 games without the fans and tonight was a great start for this year."
The Bobcats will not have the benefit of the home crowd in this contest. They are only 3-5 SU along with being 4-4 ATS during their last eight non-home games. On the other hand, the Falcons are 3-4 SU in their last four homers while posting a 2-4-1 record against the number.
No defense for Falcons in openerAir Force shot 52% versus the Bengals in their opener yet were not able to overcome a cold first half in which they went down by 11 points at the half. Also, the Falcons allowed 41 points to leading scorer Tarik Cool along with 21 points and 8 boards to Cheir Maker while each player went 4-8 from long-range. And while their defense stunk it up in this contest, their offense awakened in the second half and kept the team in the game by outscoring Idaho State by a slim 48-47 score.

Sophomore A.J Walker along with Chris Joyce led Air Force with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Walker averaged only 9 points for the Falcons while junior Joyce (8 ppg in 2018) looks to be a critical part of the offense this year. Furthermore, last year’s double-digit scorers in seniors Lavelle Scottie (15 ppg, 8 rebs in 2018) along with Ryan Swan (13 ppg in 2018) chipped in 13 and 14 points. Air Force certainly have the personnel on offense to remain competitive. Nonetheless, their defense efforts must improve if they are to make some noise moving forward.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
It can be said that the Bobcats will notice a step up in the competition level (on both ends of the floor) versus the Falcons on Saturday. However, they seem to have a decent lineup in place for 2019 as they will illustrate this versus an Air Force defense that have yet to settle in on the defensive end. This will be an exciting contest and one where the road team will come up with some big shots down the stretch to pick up their first road win of the year. Take Texas State to win this showdown.
Prediction: Texas State Bobcats
Full-Game Total Pick
I see this as being a high-scoring affair from the start. Texas State possesses some scoring with great potential while the Falcons are also stacked with players that have the potential to put the ball in the basket. Unfortunately, the Falcons had a terrible display on the defensive end in their first contest of the year. Until I see different, I happen to believe that they will struggle once again on Saturday, as this game will go back and forth throughout its duration. In the end, look for the total to surpass its limit thanks to both offenses have efficient nights.
