We have the Jimmy V Classic and we have a good matchup to consider when the Indiana Hoosiers meet the UConn Huskies. Indiana enters this matchup with an 8-1 record and UConn checks in at 6-2 this season. This should be an interesting matchup at the Garden on Tuesday night.
Indiana Loses to WisconsinIndiana represents the Big Ten and they have an 8-1 record with their only loss coming against Wisconsin this past Saturday night. The Hoosiers knocked off Florida State for a solid quality victory and just saw an eight-game winning streak snapped in the Big Ten Conference matchup on Saturday against Wisconsin.
"What results from the loss, however, will be far more important than just one game."https://t.co/OoZ2G1lLKJ— Indiana Basketball (@IndianaMBB) December 8, 2019
Indiana scores 83.2 points and allows 65.9 points per game and is shooting 50 percent from the field, 36.1 percent from downtown and 70.4 percent from the charity stripe this season.
Senior guard Devonte Green leads the Hoosiers in scoring, averaging 14.8 points per game with 3.2 assists and is drilling 51.7 percent of his three-point attempts this season. Freshman forward Trayce Jackson-Davis averages 14.8 points with a team-high 8.7 rebounds and leads the Hoosiers with 2.1 blocked shots per game this season.
Huskies Three-Game Winning StreakUConn competes in the American Athletic Conference and is 6-2 this season. The Huskies enter this matchup riding a three-game winning streak with victories over Miami, Maine, and Iona. The losses were against St Josephs, and an overtime loss to seventeenth ranked Xavier.
The Huskies score an average of 76.9 points per game while allowing 65.9 points per game and is shooting 41.5 percent from the field, 34.3 percent from behind the three-point line, and 73.9 percent from the free-throw line this season.
Senior guard Christian Vital leads the Huskies in scoring, averaging 14.8 points with a team-high 8.2 rebounds and is shooting 34.9 percent from beyond the arc. Junior center Josh Carlton averages 12.4 points with 7.9 rebounds for UConn this season.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
This should be a very good game on Tuesday night, but the Hoosiers are the better team and should win this game. Indiana has more experience, is a better shooting team, and passes the ball slightly better than UConn. UConn does have a better defense, but the Hoosiers experience should be able to penetrate the Huskies frontcourt and get plenty of good looks. Indiana also has a better bench, and that is what will carry them through this game. I will play the Hoosiers to win this game.
Full-Game Total Pick
We don’t have a total posted, but my math has this one finishing with no more than 143 points. This being a neutral court game in a famous gym, that number might be a bit high for this game. These are two good defenses, and they will demonstrate that in this matchup. Neither team plays at a fast tempo either. The Hoosiers bench is much better and more experienced, and they will be able to handle the Huskies bench, and that should also keep the score down. I will play UNDER 143 or more in this contest.
