Southern Miss at Texas Tech
When and where: Dec. 16, 2019. United Supermarkets Arena, Lubbock, TX, 9 p.m.
Texas Tech, coming off a win over No. 1 Louisville on Tuesday, returns home to face Southern Mississippi in a non-conference game. The Red Raiders are 6-3 on the season while the Golden Eagles are 3-8.
Golden Eagles have lost five of six
Southern Miss has struggled out of the gate at 3-8, although the schedule has included games against Iowa State, Gonzaga, Seton Hall and Alabama. The Golden Eagles have lost all those games.
Most recently, Southern Miss lost at home against North Florida, 72-69. North Florida led by three at the half and the two teams played even in the second half.

Southern Miss averages 67.3 points per game, ranking 278th nationally. The Golden Eagles are a shade worse on defense at 73.5 points allowed (279th).
Red Raiders pull upset of No. 1 Louisville
Texas Tech has had a rollercoaster ride this season, losing two straight to Iowa State and Creighton in the Las Vegas Invitational Tournament in November, and then beating No. 1 Louisville this past week.
Against the Cardinals, Texas Tech came out strong with a three-point lead at the half and then outscored Louisville 39-29 in the second half. The game was played in Madison Square Garden in New York City.
Jahmi’us Ramsey leads the team in scoring with 17.3 points per game while Clark leads in assists at 5.1 and rebounds at 8.8. Ramsey, however, is questionable for Tuesday’s game with a hamstring injury.
Texas Tech has played well offensively this season averaging 78 points (69th nationally). The defense has been good too, giving up 64.2 points per game (87th).
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Texas Tech is 5-4 against the spread this season. The Red Raiders covered as a 7.5 point dog with an outright win over Louisville, but before that had failed to cover in three straight.
The Golden Eagles are 3-8 on the season, but are 6-5 against the spread. However, they have failed to cover the line in four of their past five games, including losing as a two-point favorite at home against North Texas.
The combination of strong Red Raiders offense and defense along with poor Southern Miss offense and defense should lead to a Texas Tech cover.
Take Texas Tech
Prediction: Texas Tech
Full-Game Total Pick
Of their 11 games so far, six Southern Miss games have gone over compared to five under the total. The Golden Eagles went under 142 in their most recent game against North Florida.
Texas Tech has had four games go over, four go under an one push. The push came with the number at 127 against Louisville.
Both teams could be missing their top scorer, so it could be a good day for an under play.
