The 5-2 Buffalo Bulls go on the road to face off with the 5-2 Vanderbilt Commodores in Memorial Gym on Tuesday night at 8:00 PM EST. Both of these teams have been good to start the season and play a similar style of basketball. They both like to get up and down the court and score the ball at a rapid pace. They both score over 80 points a night and rank in the top 40 in the entire country. This game is going to be played extremely fast.
Bulls RollThe Buffalo Bulls have now won three games in a row and are coming off of an 88-77 victory over the William & Mary Tribe. Jayvon Graves led the way for the Bulls with 24 points on 10-of-16 shooting with five assists and two rebounds. Davonta Jordan complimented him nicely with 18 points and an impactful seven steals. The Bulls gave up 30 points to Nathan Knight, but they put up a strong team effort to overcome his outburst.
The Bulls play fast and will try to outscore their opponents. They average 82 points a game and hold the eighth-best assist to turnover ratio in the entire country. This is a team that takes care of the ball and knows how to score. Jayvon Graves averages 17 points a game to go along with six rebounds and three assists. He’s complemented in the paint by Josh Mballa, who averages 11 points and eight rebounds as a sophomore out of France.
Speedy CommodoresThe Vanderbilt Commodores are coming off of a tough 67-58 loss to the Tulsa Golden Knights in a game that they trailed throughout. Brandon Rachal and Elijah Joiner were too much to handle and the rest of the team contributed nicely as well. Aaron Nesmith and Scottie Pippen Jr. continued their success as both were in double-figures, but the rest of the team struggled mightily and Saben Lee shot just 3-of-11 off the bench. It’s just the second loss of the season for a Vandy team that has looked really good.
The Commodores play even faster than Buffalo does. They score 81.3 points a night and rank 34th in the country. They also shoot 48% from the field, which ranks 35th. This team plays fast and they play efficiently. Wing Aaron Nesmith is one of the best players in college basketball and he’s going to dominate in this fast-paced affair. Scottie Pippen Jr. will compliment him at forward and he averages 12 points and four rebounds. Saben Lee is a scoring monster off the bench, averaging 16 points, five rebounds, and seven assists a night off the bench. This team is lethal.
- Bulls are 4-10-1 ATS in their last 15 Tuesday games.
- Bulls are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 non-conference games.
- Commodores are 6-2 ATS in their last 8 vs. the Mid-American.
- Under is 11-1 in Commodores last 12 games following a straight up loss.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I like Vanderbilt to protect their home here and cover against the Buffalo Bulls. They took a tough loss against Tulsa last time out and they will respond in a big way. Aaron Nesmith is one of the best college basketball players in the nation and he’s going to thrive against a team that wants to run with Vanderbilt. The Bulls struggle out of conference and they’re going to have trouble staying with the athleticism of an SEC team. I expect Vandy to win and cover the points.
Prediction: Vanderbilt -2
Full-Game Total Pick
These teams obviously play at an incredibly high pace, but the over/under has taken this into advantage and I expect Vanderbilt to slow things down a bit at home after losing their last game. This team has a trend of slowing their offense down after a loss and this total is extremely high and hard to hit. They’ll by no means play slow, but slow enough for this under to hit.
Prediction: Under 155.5
