Murray State Racers vs. Missouri State Bears
Where and when: JQH Arena, Springfield, Missouri, Tuesday, 8 pm EST
The Murray State Racers will travel to JQH Arena in Springfield, Missouri, to face the Missouri State Bears on Tuesday night at 8 pm EST. Murray State has won the past two meetings (in 2014 and 2018) while also going 2-0 against the number during this time. However, the Racers enter this matchup just 1-5 ATS in 2019 while the Bears boast a 4-1-1 record against the spread in their last six games, overall.
Racers need to end two-game skidMurray State began the season at 3-1 with their only loss coming on the road versus the Tennessee Volunteers. However, they have dropped two of their last three games due to lackluster performances during the Gulf Coast Showdown against the LaSalle Explorers along with the Drake Bulldogs (most recently). The Racers were able to pick up a win versus the Weber State Wildcats on November 26th after an 11-point defeat versus the Explorers before falling by 10 to the Bulldogs. The encouraging part of this is that the squad not only has a one-two punch of offensive weapons to choose from while also possessing what has been a solid defensive unit as well.

Junior guard Tevin Brown is putting up just under 17 points per game while pulling down 5 rebounds per game for the Racers. Brown has scored in double-digits in every contest this year while shooting 48% from the floor in addition to 45% from long-range, respectively. Sophomore forward KJ Williams is the other playmaker for Murray State in posting just under 13 points per along with clearing 7 boards. Both Williams and Brown are coming off 3-turnover nights versus Drake, however. They must each be able to take care of the basketball when they battle a Bears squad that may suffer from offensive inconsistency, but continues to perform on the defensive end.
Bears offense has been dismal thus far in 2019With only three wins on the year thus far, Missouri State has struggled in dropping five games already in 2019. Nonetheless, four of these losses were by a total of 5 points, total. Their only blowout loss came on the road versus the LSU Tigers in their most recent outing. During this contest, the Bears held the Tigers to only 25% shooting while also outrebounding them by a margin of 31-29; However, Missouri State committed 13 turnovers while allowing 53% shooting in the defeat, very uncharacteristic for a Bears’ defense that surrenders only 42% shooting on the year. The offense was dismal in shooting 40% from the floor in addition to converting only 6 free throws in 13 attempts.

Leading scorer on the year in sophomore guard Keandre Cook (17 ppg, 5 rebs) led the team with 17 points versus the Tigers on 6-13 shooting (3-5 3FG) while Tulio Da Silva (10 ppg, 8 rebs) contributed 16 points and 8 rebounds as the transfer from South Florida barely missed out on a double-double for the second straight game. The Bears will certainly need more production from these two players, particularly with the team possibly being without 2nd leading scorer in freshman forward Gaige Prim, who is currently questionable with a lower-body injury and did not suit up versus LSU. Prim is averaging 16.5 points per game along with 4 assists on the year.
- MOSU is 1-7 ATS in their last 8 home games.
- MURR is 17-8 ATS in their last 25 road games.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I give the edge to Murray State in this contest, particularly with Prim not being in the lineup. Missouri State has simply had too many issues on the offensive end of the floor this year and are not very efficient. With that being the case, expect the Racers to hit some critical buckets at various times in this contest that will eventually get them the hard-fought victory in the end. In their last outing in Springfield, Missouri, the Racers won by 3-points versus the Bears as 5-point underdogs.
Prediction: Murray State Racers
Full-Game Total Pick
Expect the Bears to be even more aggressive on the defensive end of the floor in this contest as they will seek to establish themselves early while preventing the Racers from hitting their stride, offensively. Also, with Prim possibly being a no-go, the Racers will have an opportunity to continue their solid defensive play as of late as well. In all, I do not see the score surpassing its set total for this contest, as the under has been the mantra in three home games for the Bears in 2019 as well as for the past 8 non-conference games for Missouri State (6-2).
