Friday night college basketball action features a contest between the Cal State-Northridge Matadors and the Portland State Vikings. This is the twelfth overall meeting between these teams with Northridge winning seven of the 11 previous meetings, including a 77-71 victory in the '15-'16 season most recently. The Matadors beat Portland and Portland State lost to Oregon State last time these two teams took the court. This should be an exciting game between two teams that could use a win, as neither team has had the best of starts to the season.
Northridge's First Win StreakAfter dropping their first seven games, CSUN has their first win streak of the season going, defeating Fresno State and most recently the Portland Pilots 71-64 Wednesday night. The Matador defense created enough pressure with eight steals to push the team to victory. Terrell Gomez led the team with 28 points on the night in the winning effort. Brendan Harrick had a nice game as well with 15 points to help will the team as well.

Gomez has been the firepower behind the Northridge offense with 22.8 points per game. Darius Brown II puts up ten points with 5.4 assists and Elijah Harkless contributes 9.3 points with 5.6 rebounds per contest as well. The Matadors snag 32.6 rebounds a night and they shoot 41.7% from the field with 36.7% from downtown. They commit 13.7 turnovers per game and knock down 69.8% of their free throws.
Vikings Fall AgainJudging by their record, you would think that the start of Portland State's season has been poor, but it has been far from that. Four of their five losses come at the hands of Indiana, Hawaii, UC-Santa Barbara and most recently 81-76 versus Oregon State. Of those five losses, only two were by double-digits, both by 11 points to Indiana and Santa Barbara. Holland Woods did all he could in their last game against the Beavers with 23 points and seven boards in the loss.
The Vikings offense is led by Woods with 19.5 points and 4.8 assists per game. Matt Hauser contributes 16.1 points with five boards and Alonzo Walker averages 10.3 points and 6.1 rebounds per contest as well. Portland State grabs 37.3 rebounds per game and they shoot 42.3% from the field with 30.1% from deep. They commit 11.9 turnovers per game and hit 72,5% of their free throws.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I am loving Portland State in this contest late Friday night! The Vikings offense outscores the Matadors by just over nine points per game and their defense has been better as well, holding their opponents to 79.9 points per game as opposed to 85.4 points allowed per night from CSUN. Portland State out-rebounds the Matadors by just under five boards per game as well. The Vikings have shown moxie this year, with three of their losses coming by less than ten points and four of them versus quality opponents. They only lost by five points to one of the nation's best teams in Oregon State in their most recent game, while CSUN lost to them by 20 points earlier this year. I believe that Portland State dominates this game from start to finish and ends their two-game losing skid with a sound victory and a cover on their home court in this contest.
Prediction: Portland State -5.5
Full-Game Total Pick
This is a tricky total that odds-makers have set. These offenses only combine to average 150.5 points per game but these defenses are allowing 164.3 points per contest. Both of these teams love to push the tempo, with CSUN coming into this game ranked 114th in the country with 73.7 possessions per game and Portland State ranking 84th with 74.5 possessions per game on average. These teams have played a combined 16 games listed on the big board, and 12 of them have played to the over. The last two meetings between these teams played to the over as well. I've said before that I am not a man that puts a lot of faith into trends but when they are as strong as those, you have got to ride them. Give me the over for this late night contest.
Prediction: Over 159
