Idaho State Bengals vs. Pepperdine Waves
NCAAB: Friday, December 6, 2019 at 9:00 PM EST
Idaho State snapped their two-game losing streak with a blowout win in their last game. Any blowout is a good one, but they beat West Coast Baptist, which is in Division II of the National Christian College Athletic Association. In the Bengals two losses before their last win, both against D1 teams, they failed to score over 65 points.
Pepperdine has already gone through a little bit of a roller-coaster this season losing their first game, winning their next three, and then dropping their last five games. The Waves can score the rock but their defense has been the reason they are three games under .500.
A Little Confidence? After losing two straight where Idaho State scored 61 and 65 points, respectively, they got the minnow in West Coast Baptist who they beat 102-43 so maybe the Bengals have a little confidence coming into this game. As you can imagine a of reserves got PT in the win over West Coast Baptist, so State should be pretty fresh for this non-conference affair.
Three players for Idaho State are averaging at least 12 ppg led by Tarik Cool at 13.2 ppg. He blew up for 41 points in an 89-79 win over Air Force but since then he has only totaled 30 points. In the only gave he scored in double figures in his last four going for 11 against Santa Clara he only shot 21.4% from the floor. Jared Stutzman (12.3 ppg) has scored at least 16 points in two of his last three games and Chier Maker (12 ppg 5.8 rpg), who leads the Bengals in rebounding, has only totaled 13 points in his last two games after totaling 54 points in his previous three games. Idaho State has lost three of its four road games this season.
The D has Taken Down the WavesPepperdine is averaging a solid 78.2 ppg but their defense only ranks 336th in the nation giving up an average of 81.1 ppg. In the Waves' five-game losing streak, they have played three teams from major conferences and in that span gave a ranked Arizona team a scare losing 93-91. They lost to Providence 80-77 in their last game where they only shot 43.3% from the floor.
Colbey Ross (20-1 ppg) leads four Pepperdine players averaging in double figures and three are averaging at least 15 ppg. Ross went for 29 points in the loss to Providence shooting over 56% from the floor while in his previous game only had nine points. The brothers of Kameron Edwards (17.3 ppg) and Kessler Edwards (15 ppg) and the younger Kessler leads the Waves averaging 7.7 ppg.
Kessler has a double-double in the Providence game with 17 points and 10 boards even though he only shot 31.3% from the floor. His brother Kameronmissed the Providence game with a broken nose and is questionable for this game,

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Idaho State is coming off a blowout win but they played a weak team and in their previous game their offense fell flat. Will that change facing a Pepperdine defense that has struggled all season? I do not think so. The Bengals are not a high scoring team and they do not even rank in the top 200 in the nation in ppg and this is after putting up over 100 points in their last game. At home look for the Waves to roll the Bengals and they will win this game and cover the spread putting an end to their five-game skid.
Full-Game Total Pick
Pepperdine not only has an Over record of 9-2 in their last 11 games but in seven of their last nine games, the total has gone Over. No need to go away from those trends and that is especially the case since the Waves have been one of the worst defensive teams in the nation. The Bengals will not have a huge scoring game but the Waves will with the three legit scoring options they have. Idaho State will get their points but Pepperdine has a much better offense and it is also more balanced. In this non-conferece game the Over is THE pick.
