The top and bottom teams in the A 10 will square off in this one. There is a logjam at the top of the conference, and Davidson currently sits on top at 8-2. They recently had a five-game losing streak snapped when they fell 54-51 to UMass. Fordham’s tough season continues as they lost to Duquesne 74-66. This loss was their 10th in 11 games. Davidson will try to avoid a two-game losing streak, and climb to first place all by themselves with a win against the team in the basement.
Fordham Turns In Atrocious Second Half
Fordham was on a nine-game skid before winning their previous game. They came into this one against Duquesne looking to make it two in a row, which would be a miracle with the way this season has gone. The Rams were home, and things looked great from the opening tip. They dominated the first half as they took a 40-24 lead into halftime. Duquesne clearly had some adjustments to make, and they made them plus some. The second half started out strong for Fordham. They led 51-33 with 14 minutes left. The Dukes close out the game on a 41-15 run to completely take over, and steal this win from the Rams. Just one started finished in double-figures for the Rams. Nick Honor had 18 points, five rebounds and four assists.

A loss like that is not easy to bounce back from. Fordham is 1-9 in conference play so any win is a good win. They will be back home again in this one looking for a different result against a tougher opponent. Fordham has not won 20 games since the 1990 season. Since that season, they have finished below 10 wins 11 times, including four seasons where they won less than five games. This is a team that does not score very much. They average 68.7 points per game which is 287th in the nation. The Rams come in ranked 13th in conference scoring. They do not get to the free throw line much at all. Fordham ranks 344th in free throws made, and 345th in free throws attempted out of 353 teams. They will need to put together two perfect halves to take down Davidson, not just one.
Davidson Looks to Get Back on Track
Davidson is in a dog fight for the lead in the A 10, and faced a cupcake opponent in this one — or so they thought. UMass came in at 2-9 in conference play and were able to squeak out a win over the Wildcats. Samba Diallo of the Minutemen hit a three with 1:36 left to give his team a two-point lead. Davidson was able to get to the free throw line and knock down two. After both teams traded stops with the game tied, UMass took the ball and made the most of their last possession. Keon Clergeot nailed a three-pointer with five seconds left to seal the win for UMass. The Wildcats finished just 4-14 from beyond the arc. Jon Axel Gudmundsson was the only Wildcat to score in double-figures. He finished with 17 points.

Gudmundsson leads the team scoring 16.5 points per game. Davidson does not have a lot of depth on their team, and their rotation features young players. This is an important thing to keep in mind come tournament time. They played just seven men against UMass. This is not unlike them. The Wildcats have six players averaging over 28 minutes per game and not another one in double-digits. This is a team that loves to shoot the three. “Steph Curry University” ranks 53rd in three’s attempted, and 64th in three’s made. As a team, they are shooting 35% from beyond the arc. Four teams currently have eight wins atop the A 10. Davidson is 8-2, and will face another lesser opponent in this one. Their schedule is favorable down the stretch, but they already suffered a bad loss. They will try to avoid doing the same against Fordham.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Davidson let one get away from them last time out. They know that they should never lose to UMass. Coming into this game, they will have an extra chip on their shoulder to not let it happen again. Davidson is 4-2 straight up, and ATS vs. Fordham in their last six match ups. Overall, Davidson is 12-10 ATS this season while Fordham is 9-13. The Rams have suffered seven home losses this season. There is no home court advantage, especially at 1-9 in A 10 play. Davidson will be able to grab sole possession of first place with this win, and that is motivation enough. Expect a lop sided outcome in this game.
Full-Game Total Pick
This was a tough one. Davidson is a strong three-point shooting team, but ultimately it came down to the inept play of the Rams’ offense. They are near the bottom is scoring per game in the A 10. Four of the last six meetings between these two teams have gone under. Despite their ability to shoot, the Wildcats have been playing under the number as well. Seven of the last 10 games for Davidson have gone under, there is a push mixed in as well. This game will be ugly. Fordham will have to force Davidson to play an ugly game if they want to stay in. Davidson will be able to pull away in the end, but there wil not be many points scored by either side.
