Check out our Top Picks of the Day in today’s Deep-3 video:
The Purdue Boilermakers will be looking for their 18th win of the season when they travel to the XFINITY Center to take on the Maryland Terrapins. Purdue enters this game with a 17-6 record after beating Nebraska in its last game. Meanwhile, Maryland is currently 18-6 and is coming off of road win against Nebraska in its last game. Now, both teams will be looking to improve upon their respective records this Tuesday.
Purdue Wins Last Eight Games
Last season, the Purdue Boilermakers went 30-7 and lost in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament to Texas Tech. This season, Purdue has been a tad worse as the team has won 17 of its first 23 games. However, the team has managed to win each of its last eight games as the team currently possesses a 10-2 record in conference play. In the team’s last game, Purdue was able to defeat Nebraska by 19 points. In that game, Purdue’s offense was solid as the team scored 81 points while shooting over 50% from the floor. However, with a better opponent up next, expect Purdue’s offense to struggle a bit more.
The Purdue Boilermakers are led by junior guard Carsen Edwards who has been unbelievable in his college career. Last season, Edwards was great as he averaged 18.5 points per game along with 3.8 rebounds. However, Edwards has somehow played even better this season as he is currently leading the team in scoring with 24.6 points per game along with 3.4 assists. Edwards has an NBA future and he will be the most talented player on the court in this game. Look for him to take this game over.
Maryland Continues To Dominate At Home
Last season, the Maryland Terrapins went 19-13 and lost in the second round of its conference tournament to Wisconsin. This season, Maryland seems to have improved upon last year’s team as the Terrapins are currently 18-6. However, the team is currently 12-2 at home this season. In its last game, Maryland played on the road against Nebraska and won by 15 points. In that game, Maryland’s defense was fantastic as the team only allowed 45 points. However, Purdue is a much better offensive team than Nebraska so one should expect Maryland’s defense to struggle a bit more in this one.
The Maryland Terrapins are led by junior guard Anthony Cowan Jr. who was a huge factor on last year’s team. Last season, Cowan Jr. was extremely solid as he averaged 15.8 points per game along with 5.1 assists. However, he has managed to duplicate last year’s excellence this season as he is currently leading the team in scoring with 16.2 points per game along with 4.5 assists. As the best player on this year’s team, he better be at his best if Maryland plans on covering this spread.
- Terrapins are 9-3-1 ATS in their last 13 Tuesday games.
- Terrapins are 15-6-1 ATS in their last 22 games after allowing less than 50 points in their previous game.
- Boilermakers are 1-4-2 ATS in the last 7 meetings.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Although Purdue might be the better team, Maryland is extremely solid at home and I think that the Terrapins should be able to take care of business in this one. There is a reason why the team with the better ranking is not favorite at the moment in this matchup and I think that Purdue will struggle on the road in this one despite the team’s recent success. Give me the home favorite in this one as a result.
Prediction: Maryland PK
Full-Game Total Pick
Both teams have the ability to score a lot of points but I think that their respective defenses are highly underrated. Both teams are extremely scrappy on the defensive end and both offense have struggled at times this season. I think that both teams will look to scrap it out as it should be a struggle for both offenses in this one. In their first matchup this season, there were only a total of 122 points scored. I think this total is a bit too high as a result so I recommend the under in this matchup.
Prediction: Under 141
