The St. Bonaventure Bonnies will be looking for their tenth win of the season when they travel to Hagan Arena to take on the Saint Joseph’s Hawks. St. Bonaventure enters this game with a 9-14 record after losing to VCU in its last game. Meanwhile, Saint Joseph’s is 11-13 this season and beat Saint Louis in its last game. Now, both teams will be looking to improve their records in this one.
St. Bonaventure Continues To Lack Leadership
Last season, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies went 26-8 and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament to the Florida Gators. This season’s team, however, looks nothing like last year’s team which would help explain some of its underwhelming performances so far this season. The team lost a lot of key pieces from last season’s team including star point guard Jaylen Adams and star shooting guard Matt Mobley. They were the leading two scorers from last year’s team and the Bonnies have been unable to adjust to life without either of them. The team is currently 9-14 and is in the midst of a rebuilding year. Look for the team to struggle in this one as a result.
Hawks Looks For Another Home Win
Last season, the Saint Joseph’s Hawks went 16-16 and lost in the semifinals of its conference tournament to Rhode Island. This season, Saint Joseph’s has been even worse as it is currently 11-13. However, the team is coming off of a dominating home win against Saint Louis in its last game. In that game, Saint Joseph’s offense was amazing as it only scored 91 points on over 55% shooting from the floor. The team is now 9-3 at home and will be looking for another home win in this game.
The Saint Joseph’s Hawks are led by sophomore forward Charlie Brown Jr. who was extremely solid last season. Last season, Brown Jr. averaged 12.8 points per game along with 5.0 rebounds. This season, he has managed to play even better as he is currently leading the team in scoring with 20.3 points per game along with 5.6 rebounds. As the best player on this year’s team, he better be at his best if the team plans on covering this spread.
- Hawks are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win of more than 20 points.
- Hawks are 13-3 ATS in their last 16 games after scoring more than 90 points in their previous game.
- Bonnies are 1-6-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
- Bonnies are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Although both teams have struggled mightily this season, I have to side with Saint Joseph’s in this one. St. Bonaventure is only 3-6 on the road this season and is coming into this game off of a blowout loss. Meanwhile, St. Joseph’s is 9-3 at home and should be able to take care of business in this one. Saint Joseph’s is simply in better current form and plays significantly better at home. Give me the home team in this one.
Prediction: St. Joe’s -2
Full-Game Total Pick
Both teams have the ability to score a solid number of points and I think that their respective defenses are underrated. However, St. Bonaventure likes to play a slower style of offense which should lead to less shots and less possessions as a whole. I expect both teams to be a bit inefficient from the floor as this game goes under the total. As a result so I recommend the under in this matchup.
Prediction: Under 135.5
