Vanderbilt Commodores vs. Florida Gators
NCAAB: Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at 9:00 PM EST
Vanderbilt has had a tough season to say the least and they have lost 11 in a row. They are the only winless team in SEC play (0-10) and they are five games under .500 overall. The Commodores only rank 237th in the nation in points allowed and they have not scored over 67 points in any of their last five games. This is their first game facing Florida this season and they host them in a couple of weeks.
Florida has lost three in a row and while a staple in the Big Dance an invite may not be in the cards this season. They are two games under .500 in SEC play (4-6) and only one game over .500 overall at 12-11. While the Gators have one of the nation’s best defenses they are also one of the lowest scoring teams in the nation. While they have played two top 10 teams in their last three games in that span they have only averaged 59 ppg in their last three games.
Vandy is 6-0 ATS in their last six games facing Florida.
3-ball hurts in loss
In their last game Vanderbilt was at home and lost to Alabama 77-67 where they allowed the Crimson Tide to hit half of their 3-pointers.

Neither team shot the ball well with the Tide with a FG% of 40.7% and Vandy at 40.4%, but Alabama shot the 3 better and they also had 11 offensive boards while only giving up five. Saben Lee led the Commodores with 24 points on 9/13 shooting, Simisola Shittu had 11 points, and besides Lee the other four starters were a combined 9/26 from the floor. The Vandy bench did not help out much either with four players combining for 12 points.
With Darius Garland out for the season, Lee is the leading scorer at 13.9 ppg and he has scored at least 24 points in two of his last five games. Shittu is the 2nd leading scorer (12 ppg) and leading rebounder (7 rpg) and he only had 11 points in three games before totaling 23 in his last two games. The Commodores have failed to cover the spread in four of their last five games after a double-digit loss at home in their previous game.
Bad shooting, bad defense
Florida was on the road in their last game losing to top-ranked Tennessee 73-61 where they had a bad shooting game and played bad defense. They only shot 35.6% from the floor and they allowed the Volunteers to shoot 52.8% from the field and 42.9% from 3-pt range. Noah Locke led the Gators with 17 points on 6/10 shooting hitting five of his eight 3-pointers, Jalen Hudson came off the bench to go for 15 points, and KeVaughn Allen had 12 points on only 4/12 shooting.
Allen (12.8 ppg) and Locke (11.6 ppg) are the only two players for Florida averaging in double figures this season. Allen has struggled with his shot as of late and has failed to score over 11 points in his last three games. The Gators have failed to cover the spread in their last five SEC games. This season Florida is 7-4 at home and Vanderbilt is 1-5 on the road.
The Florida Gators are:
The Vanderbilt Commodores are:
- 16-38 ATS in their last 54 games overall
- 2-5 ATS in their last 7 road games
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up loss
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Florida has lost three in a row where their offense has really struggled and they have far from solid betting trends. However, after playing two top 10 teams in their last three games they welcome Vandy, who are winless in SEC play. The Gators will snap their three-game skid by easily winning this game and even in a low scoring affair they will cover the spread.
Prediction: PICK: Florida
Full-Game Total Pick
Florida will win this game and they will do so because of their defense. They are not a high scoring team, at all, so they will hold Vandy to a low point total and they will not light it up either. While the total is set low for this game it will still go Under, so take that pick in this SEC matchup.
Prediction: PICK: Under
