The 14-9 Rider Broncs will go on the road Friday night to face off with the 11-10 Siena Saints at 9:00 PM ET in the Times Union Center. The Saints are 5.5-point home favorites and we’re looking at a 148 over/under. Both teams are coming off important victories and will look to keep the season on the tracks as it winds down. Neither team plays very fast, and both are extremely efficient. The two teams are also hot of late, with each squad winning four of their last five. It’ll be interesting to see which team can stay on track and which will fall off right before season end.
Broncs hot of lateThe Rider Broncs have won five of their last six games and two in a row, recently beating the Niagara Purple Eagles 73-58 in a game that was never close. Frederick Scott led the way with 17 points and he was followed closely behind by Tyere Marshall with 16. The Purple Eagles were held under 40% from the field and Rider will look to keep it rolling on the road against Siena.
The Broncs aren’t an overly impressive team offensively, shooting just 44% from the field and 33.6% from three. They are, however, excellent in the paint with 38.1 rebounds per game. Dimencio Vaughn leads the way with 14.1 points and 6.5 rebounds per game while being complimented by Tyere Marshall down low 12.7 points and 7.5 rebounds. They’re a very balanced offensive team, but struggle defensively at times.
Four of five winsIt’s been a solid stretch of late for the Siena Saints, who’ve won four of their last five games after losing three straight. They most recently beat up on the Fairfield Stags 65-49 in a game that was over before it started. Elijah Burns scores 21 points for the Saints on just five shots while two others got into double-figures as well. It was a complete blowout and Siena will look to repeat here.
While both of these teams are relatively similar on paper, Siena is a lot better offensively. They score over 73 points per game while shooting 35.3% from beyond the arc. Jalen Pickett and Elijah Burns each average 15 points per game, giving the Saints two viable scoring options. Manny Camper averages 13 and is a great third piece to the puzzle. If Siena wants to cover this spread at home, they’ll need all three guys to step up and have big scoring games.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Siena is the far better team on both sides of the ball here and I expect them to come out fast against the Rider Broncs. While the Broncs have the weapons to answer, they’ll struggle to keep up with an offense that has four dangerous shooters and a lethal rebounder down low. I’ll take the home team with 5.5 points here all day as I expect Siena to blow this Rider squad out of the water.
Prediction: Siena -5.55
Full-Game Total Pick
This total seems crazy for two offenses that aren’t overly impressive, but these are two of the worst defenses in the country and it’s fair to expect both offenses to see an uptick in production. The Broncs rank 299th in defensive efficiency while the Saints sit 217th. Give me the over all day as the teams want to play fast and neither defense will do anything about it.
Prediction: Over 148
