The Bradley Braves (14-12 / 6-7 MVC) will hit the Redbird Arena floor on Saturday night as two-bucket underdogs when they take on the Illinois State Redbirds (14-12 / 7-6 MVC) at 8 p.m. ET in Normal, IL.

Two teams that mirror each other will meet for the 2nd time this season, as the Redbirds will be looking to avenge the 85 – 68 thumping handed to them by the Braves back on January 23 on Bradley’s home court.

The Redbirds have used their home court to their advantage this season, carrying a 10 – 3 record here at Redbird Arena, although they did take a loss the last time they were here against Valpo on February 5.

While the Braves take a 3-game win streak into tonight’s affair, the Redbirds have lost their last 3 games but show up as favorites at home with the line setters pointing to a split between the teams in MVC play.

Braves Looking To Build On 3-Game Conference Win Streak

The Braves are the squad that has won 3 straight games, and yet they’re the ones showing up to this party as 4-point underdogs.

Motivation enough right there to go out and keep playing well, and that is exactly what Bradley is doing right now.

The Braves defense has basically held its own all season long, as Bradley ranks 50th in the country only allowing 66.4 PPG, although their offensive numbers have plenty to not be desired which has cost them plenty of Ws this season.

Offensively? Well, not so good over here kids, as this squad ranks 299th in the country averaging 67.8 PPG.

Junior guard Darrell Brown leads this Braves squad putting in 15.3 PPG and the Braves needed all 21 of his points last time out to upset Loyola-Chicago, 61 – 54, this past Wednesday night at home. Brown has scored at least 20 points in his last 3 games and has been a double-digit performer in 23 games this year.

Sophomore forward Elijah Childs came up 3 rebounds shy of picking up his 6th double-double of the year with 13 points and 7 boards against Loyola.

Redbirds Need Home Win To Stay In The Chase

Illinois State is really only 2 games back of first place in the Missouri Valley Conference standings behind Loyola-Chicago, Drake and Missouri State, so a win here must be found to stay in contention.

After running off a 3-game win streak, the Redbirds have now lost their last 3 games coming into tonight’s affair after Bradley took the first meeting between the teams already.

While the line setters may be pointing to a Redbird win, things are not going all that smoothly right now for head coach Dan Muller, who is in year 7 with Illinois State and still seeking his first NCAA Tourney appearance.

Muller has not yet posted a season under .500, although the team sits only 2 games over the mark entering this weekend with only 5 games left to play before the MVC tournament that will be played in St. Louis.

Senior guard Milik Yarbrough leads this Redbirds squad putting up 16.4 PPG with 7 boards a night in his farewell campaign at Illinois State. Yarbrough transferred from St. Louis after his sophomore season and has put up two stellar season’s at Illinois State, as he averaged 16.6 last season as well.

Yarbrough leads the team in rebounds and assists, and he is one of many guards that you will see on the floor for Muller on a given night.

Junior Zach Copeland is one of them, as he puts up 10.8 PPG, although he struggled last time out against Northern Iowa in the 77 – 64 loss to the Panthers.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Call meΒ  dog kind of guy, but isn’t Bradley the team that #1 has already beaten this Redbirds squad, and #2.. Playing well right now having won their last 3 games?

Call me crazy, but the Redbirds need to be playing better to be listed as 4-point anything how I see them right now.

Bradley +4 is the 3* Play on the Side.

Prediction: Bradley +4

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Nope, that number is a little too low for my tastes, as I see a Bradley potential win here, and the over cruising in with it.

Here it is.. 84 – 80 Bradley comes away with the road win and upsets the Redbirds in a high-scoring affair.

The Over 133 is the 4* Play on the Total.

Prediction: Over 133
