Cal Riverside Highlanders vs. Hawaii Warriors
Where and when: Stan Sheriff Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, Saturday, 11:55 pm EST
The Cal Riverside Highlanders will travel to Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii, to face the Hawaii Warriors in an all important Big West conference showdown on Sunday morning at 1 am EST.
The Warriors reside in fourth place, currently; However, have dropped two of their last three games after falling to the top-seeded UC Irvine Anteaters. The Warriors were not able to figure out the aggressive defense for UC Irvine as they ended the half with only 18 points. On the other hand, the defense for Hawaii allowed 47% shooting while the home team heavily outrebounded the Warriors on their way to the victory.
The Highlanders continue to struggle as they have dropped four straight games after crashing and burning versus Cal State Fullerton in a 23 point blowout. Leading scorer on the season in Dikembye Martin led the team with 18 points while going 7-18 from the floor along with 2-9 from long range in the loss. And while allowing the Titans to shoot 50% on the night, the Highlanders stunk it up offensively in making good on just 33% of their field goals.
Mustangs no match for Warriors in win
The Warriors were able to atone for an 11-point setback to the UC Irvine Anteaters in their prior outing by beating up on the cellar-dwelling Cal Poly Mustangs in their last time out. The offense was red-hot from the floor in shooting 50% both from the field along with three-point range as Drew Buggs along with Dawson Carper posted 17 and 15 points in the win.
Buggs also dished out 8 assists on the night as he has 24 assists in the last three games for the Warriors. Zigmars Raimo (11 ppg, 5 rebs) has also remained consistent on the season as he pumped in 11 points versus the Anteaters in addition to shooting 55% from the floor on the year.

The defense for Hawaii put in a masterful performance on this night in allowing just 45 points on 37% shooting as leading scorer Donovan Fields went just 4-13 along with 0-3 from long-range in ending with 15 points in the loss. The Warriors will prepare for a looming matchup versus the Gauchos of Cal Santa Barbara immediately after their duel with the Highlanders. The Gauchos are currently in third place within the conference, however, dropped their last outings to UC Riverside in their last time out.
Martin and Pickett leads Highlanders in win over Gauchos
Thirty-nine percent shooting was the ultimate undoing for the Gauchos as they also connected on just 4 of 22 attempts from long-range in their loss to the Highlanders. On the other hand, the home team could not miss from the floor in shooting 58% from the floor as Martin shined with 18 points on the night. Dominik Pickett continues to provide an offensive lift as he is currently shooting 37% from three-point range on the year. He also made good on 4 of 5 attempts from the arc in the blowout victory for Cal Riverside.

Despite their defensive performance versus the Gauchos, the Highlanders have not played well in this area, recently. In fact, they entered their matchup with Cal Santa Barbara allowing a tad under 80 points in three games prior.
In all, Cal Riverside has only won nine games on the season and are in no threat of making any type of run moving forward. Also, they fell by four points to Hawaii in their last meeting in addition to being 1-3 in their last four games.
- UCR is 1-4 ATS in last five games
- HAW is 7-3 ATS in last 10 games
- The Under is 4-1 in HAW last five games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Look for the home team to feed from an all-important victory in their last matchup versus lowly Cal Poly to spur them to victory in this outing versus yet another struggling West Coast Conference team in the Highlanders. As stated, Cal Riverside has struggled on the road, particularly on the offensive end. With that being said, the Warriors have been stellar on the defensive end in their past few home outings and I expect this to continue versus a Highlanders squad that only averages 66 points per outing on the season.
Prediction: Pick: Hawaii Warriors -650
Full-Game Total Pick
The under has been the result in four of the last five games for the Warriors in addition to being the play in three of the last four games for the Highlanders. Expect these trends to continue in this contest as neither team has performed consistently on the offensive end lately. It is for this reason that one should certainly look for the defenses to take center stage in what will be a low-scoring yet competitive conference matchup throughout.
Prediction: Pick: Under 133
Full-Game Prop Bet
The Highlanders have struggled much too much lately, thus making it impossible to back them with the double-digit points in this matchup. On the other hand, Hawaii continues to have aspirations of increasing their positioning within the conference at this point. In the end, look for the Warriors to pull out an impressive win on Saturday night versus an Highlander team that is fading fast.
Prediction: Pick: Hawaii Warriors -10.5
Half-Time Side Pick
Again, the troubles for the Highlanders have been on both ends of the floor. It is for this reason that the Warriors, who are coming off a huge defensive performance versus the lowly Cal Poly Mustangs, will assert themselves early in this area while relying on their offense to take advantage of a Highlanders defense that has has allowed opponents to light up the scoreboard, lately, as pointed out earlier in this article.
Prediction: Pick: Hawaii Warriors -6
Half-Time Total Bet
I see the under as being the strong play at the half in this matchup as I see the Highlanders struggling, yet again, versus a Hawaii team that has improved their play at home. Also, the offense for the Warriors have been up and down lately as well. Nonetheless, they will indeed put up some points early in which to take a lead at the break. Nonetheless, the under will remain the result.
Prediction: Pick: Under 62.5
Half-Time Prop Prediction
Look for the Warriors to dominate in this matchup in winning their second straight. Despite their loss to the top-seeded Cal Irvine recently, they continue to possess a slim chance of making noise within their respective Big West conference.
Prediction: Pick: Hawaii Warriors -360
