NCAAB: Saturday, February 16, 2019 at 10:00 PM EST
After a tough start to Big West play Cal State Fullerton has caught fire and they have won two in a row and seven of their last eight games. In that span, they also beat Cal State Northridge on the road 78-71. The Titans are at 7-3 in conference play in 2nd place two games back of UC Irvine, who they do not face again this season. Fullerton put up 85 points in their last game and they rank in the middle of the pack in the nation in ppg and points allowed.
While Cal State Fullerton is soaring, CSUN is not losers of two in a row and three of their last four games. They have only scored 64 and 59 points, respectively, in their last two games while on the season they are averaging 76.7 ppg. The D has been the Matadors main issue on the season, as out of 351 D1 teams they only rank 341st in points allowed. CSUN is only 4-5 in Big West play and are 10-15 overall.
Fullerton is 4-1 ATS in their last five games facing CSUN.
Holding on for the W
In their last game Cal State Fullerton was at home and beat Long Beach State 85-82 where they held onto the lead after outscoring the 49ers 34-27 in the first half. Both teams shot 50% from the floor and while the Titans shot the 3-ball much better they also had 18 turnovers. Four of five starters scored in double figures led by Khalil Ahmad with 19 points, Austen Awosika had 17 points, and Jackson Rowe had a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Ahmed and Kyle Allman Jr., who went for 11 points in the win over Long Beach, are tied for the team lead each averaging 18.2 ppg. Rowe is averaging 11 ppg and in his last four games he has two double-doubles and has pulled down at least 10 boards in three of those games. Fullerton has covered the spread in 20 of their last 28 games facing a team with a losing record.
Not a good shooting game
CSUN was on the road in their last game losing to UC Davis 76-59 where they shoot the ball poorly. They only shot 39.6% from the floor and they allowed the Aggies to shoot 48.2% from the floor and 48% from beyond the 3-pt arc. Terrell Gomez led the way for the Matadors with 24 points on 7/13 shooting hitting six of his eight 3-pointers and Lamine Diane had 20 points and nine rebounds with no other CSUN player going for more than seven points. They are the two leading scorers on the season as well with Diane averaging 24.1 ppg and Gomez averaging 19.3 ppg. Diane has averaged 27.3 ppg in his last four games and Gomez had really struggled with his shot for three straight games before a solid shooting game in the loss to UC Davis. This season CSUN is 5-7 at home and Cal State Northridge is 3-9 on the road.
The Cal State Northridge Matadors are:
- 16-34-2 ATS in their last 52 games following a straight up loss
The Cal State Fullerton Titans are:
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 Saturday games
- 20-8 ATS in their last 28 games vs. a team with a losing straight up record
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
While CSUN has lost three of their last four games they have been a good bet in their last seven games and have covered in six of their last seven home games. However, that trend will not continue in this game. Fullerton is very hot and they beat CSUN a few weeks back. They will not only cover the spread in this game, but get the W as well sending the Matadors to their 3rd straight loss.
Prediction: PICK: Cal State Fullerton
Full-Game Total Pick
In the last six games between these teams at CSUN the total has gone Over five times, but don’t look for that trend to continue. the Matadors have really struggled to score in their last two games and they will do so in this game as well. Fullerton will not light it up in the W and that is why the Under is the pick in this Big West matchup.
Prediction: PICK: Under
