Akron Zips vs Buffalo Bulls

Where: Alumni Arena

When: Saturday, February 29, 2020, 2:00 pm ET

We have a Mid-American Conference (MAC) match up to consider for Saturday afternoon when the Akron Zips meet the Buffalo Bulls for an afternoon of MAC college basketball. Akron enters this matchup coming off a road loss to Bowling Green where they failed to cover the spread. Buffalo suffered a road loss to Ohio University in its most recent game in a game the Bulls failed to cover a +2 point spread.

Zips Fall to Bowling Green

Akron is 21-7 overall with an 11-4 record in conference play this season. The Zips have won four of its last five games and Saturday marks game two of a two-game road trip. Akron is 7-4 this season on the road and has failed to cover the spread in three of its last five games. The Zips are one game behind Bowling Green in the MAC-East and if the NCAA Tournament were to begin today, Akron would likely need to win the MAC or its season-ending tournament to get an invitation to the tournament.

The Zips score an average of 75.3 points while allowing 65.9 points per game. Akron is shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 36.3 percent from downtown and 76.7 percent from the charity stripe this season.

Akron has four players scoring in double figures and are led by junior guard Loren Christian Jackson. The junior guard is scoring 19.7 points with 2.6 rebounds and a team-high 4.5 assists per game. Jackson is shooting 43.5 percent from long range and scored 35 points with two caroms and two assists in the Zips road loss to Bowling Green.

Bulls Fall to Ohio

Buffalo is 9-6 in conference play with an overall record of 18-10 this season. The Bulls are 8-5 this season at home and have won four of its last five games. Saturday marks game one of a two-game homestand and the Bulls are 3-1-1 ATS over their last five games. Buffalo is third in the MAC-East and would likely need to win the MAC tournament for a shot at playing in the NCAA Tournament.

The Bulls score an average of 78.6 points per game and allow 75 points per game this season. Buffalo makes 43.3 percent of its field goal attempts, 32.5 percent of its triple tries with a 67 percent free-throw shooting percentage.

Buffalo has five players scoring in double figures and is led by junior guard Jayvon Graves. The junior guard scores an average of 17.1 points with 5.4 rebounds and a team high 2.6 assists per game this season. Graves is knocking down 36.5 percent of his triple attempts and scored 16 points with seven rebounds and a pair of steals in the Bulls road loss to Ohio.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

I will take Akron in this matchup. The Zips have 21 wins this season and they still might need to keep winning games otherwise they don’t get into the NCAA Tournament. Akron is one of the better teams in the country and especially on the defensive end and they will cause Buffalo all sorts of trouble. The Zips offense should be able to get the job done as they are top 70 in points scored up against a Bulls defense allowing 75 points per night. I will take Akron to beat Buffalo in this contest.

Prediction: Akron

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

We don’t have a total to point to for Saturday but I will be going with the UNDER in this matchup. The under is 4-1 over their previous five meetings and we have the Zips defense which is pretty good and an average Bulls defense. Both teams play above the NCAA average tempo but Buffalo is a horrible shooting team and the Zips are going to hold that offense down and this game is going to stay under the total. I will play UNDER in this contest.

Prediction: Under
