We have an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) match up to consider for Saturday afternoon when the sixth-ranked Florida State Seminoles meet the Clemson Tigers for an afternoon of ACC college basketball. Florida State enters this matchup riding a four-game winning streak where they covered the spread in three of those games. Clemson enters this game coming off a road loss to Georgia Tech where they failed to cover the spread.
Seminoles Four Game Winning StreakFlorida State is 24-4 overall with a 14-3 record in conference play this season. The Seminoles have won four of its last five games and Saturday marks game one of a two-game road trip. Florida State is 6-4 this season on the road and has covered the spread in four its last five games. The Seminoles lead the conference by a half a game and if the NCAA Tournament were to begin today, Florida State would likely be the second seed in the South region.
The Seminoles score an average of 75.5 points while allowing 65.5 points per game. Florida State is shooting 45.6 percent from the field, 35.9 percent from downtown and 76 percent from the charity stripe this season.
Florida State has three players scoring in double figures and are led by sophomore guard Devin Vassell. The sophomore guard is scoring 12.9 points with 5.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Vassell is shooting 42.7 percent from long range and scored 12 points with one carom in the Seminoles home win over the eleventh ranked Louisville Cardinals.
Clemson Falls to Georgia TechClemson is 8-9 in conference play with an overall record of 14-13 this season. The Tigers are 10-5 this season at home and have won three of its last five games. Saturday marks a one-game homestand and the Horned Frogs are 3-2 ATS over their last five games. Clemson is seventh in the ACC and will likely need to win the ACC tournament in order to receive an invitation to the NCAA Tournament.
The Tigers score an average of 66.8 points per game and allow 63.7 points per game this season. Clemson makes 43 percent of its field goal attempts, 31.9 percent of its triple tries with a 67.7 percent free-throw shooting percentage.
Clemson has two players scoring in double figures and is led by junior forward Aamir Simms. The junior forward scores an average of 13.7 points with a team-leading 7.2 rebounds and a team high 2.1 assists per game this season. Simms is knocking down 39.5 percent of his triple attempts and scored 23 points with five rebounds in the Tigers road loss to Georgia Tech.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will take Florida State in this matchup. The Seminoles have their destiny in its own hands and they should be able to take out Clemson on Saturday. Florida State is 3-2 ATS in their last five meetings with the Tigers and they will use their superior defense to thwart the Tigers’ top 35 offense. Florida State is the slightly more experienced side and if this is as close as I think it might be, the Seminoles will win this one at the charity stripe. I will take Florida State over Clemson in this contest.
Prediction: Florida State
Full-Game Total Pick
We don’t have a total to point to for Saturday but I will be going with the UNDER in this matchup. These two sides finished under the total in their previous meeting and with these two defenses, the way they are, going under the total is the only logical way to go. This will be a pace-up game as Florida State plays at a tempo slightly above the NCAA average and will drag the much slower tempo Tigers into a faster game. Clemson isn’t a very good shooting team and I will go with the UNDER in this contest.
