Drake goes undefeated at home

Northern Iowa leads the MVC at 24-5 overall and 13-4 in the conference. They are a game ahead of Loyola and 2 games ahead of Bradley with one game left. They can sew up the conference with a win at Drake. They won their second straight game, beating Evansville Wednesday 84-64 easily covering at -13.5. They finished the regular season undefeated at home at 16-0. The Panthers have covered in their last two wins and they are 20-3 this year as the favorite.

A.J. Green led Northern Iowa with 21 points in the win over Evansville while Trae Berhow added 16 points and 7 rebounds. Isaiah Brown added 12 points, 4 rebounds, and three assists while Austin Phyfe finished with 10 points and 3 rebounds. Also, Noah Carter contributed 11 points, 2 rebounds,2 steals, 1 assist, and 1 block. Spencer Haldeman tossed in 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds, while Tywhon Pickford added 4 points.

Drake loses at Loyola

The Drake Bulldogs lost at Loyola 64-60 on Tuesday to fall to 18-12 and 8-9 in the MVC. Loyola was a 7 point favorite so Drake covered.D.J. Wilkins drained a three-pointer with 12.1 seconds left to pull the Bulldogs within two points at 62-60 but they couldn't get any closer. The Bulldogs fell to 18-12 overall and 8-9 in the conference. All they have left is to play spoiler here and get ready for the MVC tournament.

"I thought our guys really competed and executed the game plan defensively," said Drake coach Darian DeVries, reported Drake basketball. "We crawled back in and gave ourselves our chance. We got the look we wanted, but unfortunately, we just missed. But I'm proud of the guys and proud of the fight."

Garrett Sturtz led Drake with 17 points and 8 rebounds while Liam Robbins had 13 points, 10 rebounds and four blocks. Jonah Jackson added 9 points. Drake shot 47.8 percent from the field and 50 percent from three-point range. However, they had 21 turnovers which led to 22 points Loyola points.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

Take Northern Iowa here to cover. We know that Northern Iowa is good at home, but so is Drake. They are 14-1 this year, which is not too shabby. But they haven't been great against the spread, going 13-15. The Panthers, on the other hand, are 18-8-1 against the spread this year. The last time they played Drake, the Panthers dominated inside, pounding Drake on the glass. But the Panthers are also one of the best three-point shooting teams in the nation shooting nearly 40 percent from deep. Drake struggled to cove them on the perimeter last time out as Green drained 6 of 9 threes. This will be the difference once again.

Prediction: Northern Iowa

Full-Game Total Pick

Take the over here. The Panthers are one of the best shooting teams in the nation, shooting 39 percent from three. Also, they score 76 points per game, which ranks 50th in the nation. Drake didn't show the ability to stop them the last time they played, so I don't see that changing here - especially with the conference regular season title on the line for the Panthers. The over is 7-0 in the Panthers last 7 Saturday games and 11-2 in their last 13 games following an against the spread win. Also, the over is 5-1 in the Bulldogs last 6 home games.
