Pitt Panthers vs NC State Wolfpack

Where: PNC Arena

When: Saturday, February 29, 2020, 12:00 pm ET

We have an Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) matchup to consider for Saturday afternoon when the Pitt Panthers meets the NC State Wolfpack for an afternoon of ACC college basketball. Pitt enters this matchup mired in a five-game losing streak and failed to cover the spread in four of those five losses with one push. NC State hopes to end a two-game losing streak where they failed to cover the spread in either of those two losses.

Pitt Five Game Losing Streak

Pitt is 15-14 overall with a 6-12 record in conference play this season. The Panthers have lost five consecutive games and Saturday marks game one of a two-game season-ending road trip. Pitt is 2-7 this season on the road and has failed to cover the spread in four of its last five games. The Panthers are thirteenth in the ACC standings and unless something drastic happens, like win the ACC tournament, they won’t make the NCAA tournament.

The Panthers score an average of 64.9 points while allowing 64.6 points per game. Pittsburgh is shooting 40.2 percent from the field, 28.9 percent from downtown and 71.9 percent from the charity stripe this season.

Pitt has three players scoring in double figures and are led by freshman guard Justin Champagnie. The freshman guard is scoring 12.3 points with a team-high 7.4 rebounds per game. Champagnie is shooting 25.7 percent from long range and scored 13 points with 17 rebounds in the Panthers home loss to Syracuse.

Wolfpack Two Game Losing Streak

NC State is 8-9 in conference play with an overall record of 17-11 this season. The Wolfpack are 12-4 this season at home and has lost three of its last five games. Saturday marks a one-game homestand and the Wolfpack are 2-3 ATS over their last five games. NC State is seventh in the ACC standings and currently is one of the four last four in teams for the NCAA Tournament.

The Wolfpack scores an average of 74.5 points per game and allows 69.6 points per game this season. NC State makes 44.7 percent of its field goal attempts, 32.3 percent of its triple tries with a 71 percent free-throw shooting percentage.

NC State has four players scoring in double figures and is led by senior guard CJ Bryce. The senior guard scores an average of 13.3 points with a team-high 6.2 rebounds and two assists per game this season. Bryce is knocking down 32.9 percent of his triple attempts and scored 13 points with five caroms in the Wolfpack road loss to North Carolina.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

I will take NC State in this matchup. This game matters to the Wolfpack and I expect them to use their slightly better defense to its advantage and win the game behind its defense. The Wolfpack offense is top 50 according to Kenneth Pomeroy and I expect them to outdo the below-average Panthers offense and come out of this game with at least an eight-point victory. I will take NC State to defeat Pittsburgh in this contest.

Prediction: NC State

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

We don’t have a total to point to for Saturday but I will be going with the OVER in this matchup. The over is 2-0 over their last two meetings and 6-4 over their previous ten meetings. Neither side has an explosive offense but NC State clearly has an offense that knows how to score the basketball and they will score against Pitt. This will likely be a pace-up contest with the more experienced Wolfpack playing just above the NCAA tempo. I will be playing the OVER in this contest.

Prediction: Over
