With March upon us, conference tournament play continues as the SEC tournament resumes this Friday. In this quarterfinals matchup, the Mississippi State Bulldogs will travel to Bridgestone Arena to take on the Tennessee Volunteers. Mississippi State enters this game with a 23-9 record while Tennessee enters this game with a 27-4 record. Now, both teams will be looking to improve on their records this Friday.
Mississippi State Looks For Another Conference Win
This season, the Bulldogs were expected to build upon last year behind some veteran leadership as the team looks to make it into the NCAA tournament. So far this season, Mississippi State has looked amazing as the team is currently 23-9. However, only 11 of those wins have come in the team’s 19 conference games. In the team’s last game, Mississippi State was able to beat Texas A&M in the first round of the conference tournament by double digits. In that game, Mississippi State’s defense was solid as the team only allowed 54 points on less than 37% shooting from the floor. With a much better opponent up next, Mississippi State’s offense will need to continue playing well.

The Mississippi State Bulldogs are led by senior guard Quinndary Weatherspoon who has looked great so far this season. Last season, Weatherspoon averaged 14.4 points per game along with 6.0 rebounds while shooting 48.4% from the floor. So far this season, Weatherspoon has played even better as he leads the team in points per game. He is currently averaging 18.5 points per game along with 4.9 rebounds.
Tennessee Looks Like The Class Of The SEC
Tennessee entered this season with hopes to not only finish with a better record but to also win the national championship. So far this season, the team has looked ready to accomplish those feats as it has won 27 of its first 31 games. However, the team did lose its regular season finale against Auburn by four points. In that game, Tennessee’s defense was awful as the team allowed its opponent to score 84 points on over 46% shooting from the floor. So far this season, Tennessee has looked like one of the best teams in the country and is one of the favorites to win the national championship according to multiple betting outlets. One has to wonder if Mississippi State can handle the depth of this Tennessee team.
The Tennessee Volunteers are led by junior forward Grant Williams who has been magnificent in his third season with the program. Last season, Williams averaged 15.2 points per game along with 7.3 rebounds. So far this season, he has played even better as he is averaging 19.3 points per game on 58% shooting from the floor along with 7.7 rebounds. Williams has been one of the best players in college basketball this season and Mississippi State will do whatever it can to stop him from getting easy baskets.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Although Mississippi State won yesterday, Tennessee is the better all-around team and has significantly more talent on its roster than Mississippi State. For a team like Tennessee to be favored by so few points against an inferior foe, I’m not even going to think about making a case for Mississippi State. Tennessee should be able to win this neutral site game due to its veteran experience and I think that Mississippi State will be unable to limit Tennessee’s offense enough to keep this game close. Give me the favorite in this one as a result.
Full-Game Total Pick
Both teams have the ability to score a lot of points but I think that their respective defenses are highly underrated. This is a conference rivalry game and I expect them both teams to bring it defensively in what should be a physical contest. These teams just played each other two weeks ago and the game totaled just 125 points. This total is too high as a result so I like the under.
