INDPU Jaguars vs. Marshall Thundering Herd
NCAAB: Tuesday, March 19, 2019 at 7:00 PM EST
In the first round of the CIT Marshall hosts INDPU. INDPU did not end the season well, to say the least, as they lost their last three games and dropped seven of their last nine games. They finished the season at .500 (16-16) and were 8-10 in Horizon League play. The Jaguars only rank 235th in the nation in points allowed and while they have had a legit offense on the season they only scored 56 points in their last game and 63 in the one before that.
After a tough stretch of losing six of seven games, Marshall rebounded to win six in a row before losing their last game in the Conference USA tournament. They finished at 19-14 and 11-7 in conference play and to say the Thundering Herd are all about their offense would be an understatement. They are putting up an average of 80.2 ppg and their scoring is needed since they only rank 346th in the nation in points allowed.

This is the first-ever meeting between these teams.
First half does Jaguars in
In their last game in the Horizon League quarterfinals, INDPU lost to Wright State 71-56 where they were outscored by 13 points in the first half only scoring 21 points. They did not have a bad game on D holding the Raiders to a FG% of 42.9%, but they only shot 35.7% from the floor. Jaylen Minnett was the only player for the team to score in double figures going for 17 points off the bench on 6/13 shooting.
Camron Justice (18.5 ppg) leads the Jaguars in scoring on the season and after totaling 37 points in two games he only had eight points on 1/8 shooting in the loss to Wright State. Minnett is the only other player for the squad averaging in double figures at 12 ppg and he has totaled 37 points in his last two games on decent shooting. While this is a CIT game it is being held at Marshall and the Jaguars have failed to cover the spread in their last six road games. On top of that, overall, they only won three of 15 games away from home.
Not the best way to end the season
Marshall was streaking until their season finale where they lost to badly to Southern Miss 82-73. They only shot 42.6% from the floor and allowed the Golden Eagles to shoot 53.8%. Four players for the Thundering Herd scored in double figures led by Jannson Williams with 22 points.
Jon Elmore led the Herd on the season averaging 20.2 ppg and he scored 18 points in the loss to Southern Miss after going for 32 points in his previous game. C.J. Burks ranked 2nd in the team averaging 17.1 ppg and he has only totaled 15 points in the last two games. Marshall had covered the spread in five in a row before failing to cover in the loss to Southern Miss and they are only 1-10-1 ATS in their last 12 games following a loss. On the season, the Thundering Herd are 12-3 at home.
The Marshall Thundering Herd are:
- 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall
The INDPU Jaguars are:
- 1-8 ATS in their last 9 games overall
- 0-4 ATS in their last 4 road games vs. a team with a winning home record
- 0-6 ATS in their last 6 road games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Marshall was on fire before their last game of the season while INDPU finished the season with a thud. The Thundering Herd will pick it up at home where they will play well and not only beat a beat-up Jaguars team, but beat them badly. The Thundering Herd will win this game easily and cover the spread winning their 7th game in their last eight.
Prediction: PICK: Marshall
Full-Game Total Pick
Have to go with the Under in this game, as in four of Marshall’s last five home games the total has gone Under. On top of that in seven of the Jaguars last nine road games the posted total has gone Under. Yeah, in this post-season matchup don’t look for a barnburner, as the money pick is the Under,.
Prediction: PICK: Under
