The Sun Belt Conference and MEAC will face off in some postseason basketball in the CBI. Coastal Carolina will host Howard in this one. Howard finished their season 17-16, and third in the MEAC. They were able to pick up a win in their tournament, but were eventually knocked out by Norfolk State. Coastal Carolina finished a tough regular season schedule with a 30-point loss to UL Monroe.
Coastal Carolina Suffers Blowout Loss in Tournament
Coastal Carolina finished their regular season with a record of 15-16. They were able to make it to the second round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament before suffering a blowout loss to UL Monroe. They fell behind by 10 heading into halftime, but kept their head above water. In the second half, UL Monroe completely drowned them. Coastal Carolina scored just 19 points in the second half. In the end, they were bounced to the tune of 80-50. This was a lop sided game on all accounts. Coastal Carolina shot 29.5% from the floor compared to 50% from UL Monroe. Coastal finished 5-25 from three, and UL Monroe was 14-31. The Chanticleers had just two players finish in double-figures led by Tommy Burton with 15 points.

Zac Cuthberson led Coastal Carolina in scoring and rebounding throughout the season. He scored 18.2 points per game while grabbing 8.2 rebounds. The Chanticleers ranked 82nd in the country in scoring at 76.3 points per game. This was large in part to their three-point shooting. As a team, they shot 36.6% from deep which was 67th nationally. Coastal Carolina did not have the season they wanted. They were not invited to the NIT, but will play a post season game here against Howard in the CBI. They will look to make sure that this is not their last game of the season.
Howard finished their season just one game, and six points away from the NCAA Tournament. They were taken down in the MEAC Tournament by top-seeded Norfolk State. The Bison fell behind by eight heading into halftime. They scored 43 points in the second half, but their defense was not strong enough to make a comeback. Both teams had 25 field goals made. Howard shot 44.6% from the field with 10 made three’s. They were outscored 17-9 at the free throw line. Two players scored 40 of their 69 points. Chad Lott finished with 21 points while R.J. Cole had 19. Howard made a nice run in their conference championship, but came up just short of that automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The Bison were not a strong three-point shooting team. They did most of their work from inside-the-arc. Howard ranked second in the nation in two-point field goal attempts. They scored 79.2 points per game which was 39th in the country, but they had just a one-point differential. They were 325th in the nation in points allowed. This was the reason Howard did not have more wins than they did. Cole was their leading scorer with 21.6 points per game. Charles Williams ranked second with 17.9 while Lott scored 14.2 points per game. Those three were the only Bison with double-digit points per game. Howard will look to pick up their first postseason win in school history in this game.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Coastal Carolina will be at home in this game, but it is a little surprising to see them as a double-digit favorite. They are just 3-7 ATS in their last 10 games. Howard has covered four of their last five games. The Bison have a winning record in games played on the road this season. They feature three players who can score in bunches which will help them away from home. Coastal Carolina does not have to lose this game, but it is hard to imagine them winning it by 12 or more points. Howard is the safe play in this game.
Prediction: Howard +11.5
Full-Game Total Pick
This is a hefty number in a college basketball game. Many would see it, and automatically click under. Well, not in this one. Why? Why not. Both of these teams have played more overs this season than games under. Howard features one of the worst defenses in the country while Coastal Carolina can light it up from deep. This is a post season game with no risk on the line. Defenses might take a night off, and put all of their focus on offense. This will be a game that lights up the scoreboard.
Prediction: Over 162.5
