The Florida State Seminoles and the Gonzaga Bulldogs will meet at the Honda Center this Thursday night as both teams can use another victory. Florida State enters this game with a 29-7 record after beating Murray State in its last game. Meanwhile, Gonzaga is 32-3 this season as it beat Baylor in its last game. Now, both teams will be looking to improve on their respective records in this one.

Florida State Looks For Spot In Elite Eight

This season, Florida State looked to improve upon last year’s success as the team hoped to compete in the ACC and to make another deep run in the NCAA tournament. So far this season, the team has fulfilled expectations quite nicely as the team is currently 29-7 and was able to win its first two round matchups against Vermont and Murray State. In the team’s last game, Florida State destroyed Murray State with its physicality as the team eventually won by 28 points. However, with a better opponent up next, Florida State will need to continue playing well on both sides of the ball.

The Florida State Seminoles are led by senior guardTerance Mannwho was a huge factor on last year’s team. Last season, Mann was extremely solid as he averaged 12.6 points per game along with 5.4 rebounds. However, he has managed to excel this season as he is currently second on the team in scoring with 11.6 points per game along with 6.5 rebounds per game. As a senior, he has been the leader of this team all year long and the team will need his leadership if it plans on winning this game.

Coach Hamilton stated that forwardPhil Coferwill not be present with the team after the passing of his father occurred last week.

“I think Phil wanted to come to Anaheim. But we flew from Hartford to Atlanta and sat down with his parents and the arrangements and the responsibilities that he had as a family, they just felt it was best for him to be there and be part of the arrangements and everything. He had planned to come back and come out with us and come back. But at that time, he didn’t know what the arrangements were. He didn’t have an idea because no one told him. Once they sat down as a family and discussed it, it became obvious that the best thing for him to do was to sacrifice being out here with his teammates and take care of the family business, and I agree with him,” Hamilton said.

Gonzaga Looks Like The Best Team In The Nation

This season, Gonzaga looked to improve upon last year’s success as the team hoped to make another deep run in the NCAA tournament. So far this season, the team has fulfilled expectations quite nicely as the team is currently 32-3 and was able to win its first two round matchups against Fairleigh Dickinson and Baylor. In the team’s last game, Gonzaga had a double-digit lead for almost the entirety of the second half as the team coasted to a victory. However, with a better opponent up next, Gonzaga will need to continue playing well.

The Gonzaga Bulldogs are led by junior forwardRui Hachimurawho has been tremendous with the program in his college career. Last season, he averaged 11.6 points per game along with 4.7 rebounds. This season, Hachimura was expected to become the focal point of the team’s offense and he has accepted that responsibility with open arms. He is currently leading the team in scoring with 19.7 points per game while shooting an impressive 60.3% shooting from the floor.

Coach Few stated that he is extremely impressed with his team’s performance so far after such an awful performance in the conference championship game.

“It’s not easy getting through that first weekend and couldn’t be more proud of this group, how they kind of managed and navigated their way through it. Especially in lieu of we weren’t feeling great about how we played in our conference tournament. It was great to see us get through that,” Few said.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet
Rating:

Although Gonzaga is the better overall team, I think that Florida State is getting too many points in this one. Gonzaga is an elite team but Florida State was able to beat the Bulldogs outright last year in the tournament (75-60) so one has to be a bit skeptical about this team’s ability to cover point spreads of this magnitude on a neutral site in this game. It is also an NCAA tournament game in which the underdog will have the best player on the court. Give me the Florida State Seminoles plus the points in this one.

Prediction: Florida State +7.5

Full-Game Total Pick
Rating:

Both teams have the ability to score a lot of points and like to play relatively uptempo. Both teams are coming off solid offensive outputs and I can see both teams clicking on offense once again in this one. I expect both teams to play efficient offense as Gonzaga likes to play extremely uptempo while Hachimura and Mann will be virtually unstoppable for the other team to guard. As a result, give me the over.

Prediction: Over 147
