Fresno State Bulldogs vs. Air Force Falcons Prediction, Preview, and Odds - 10-12-2019
On Saturday night, the Fresno State Bulldogs and Air Force Falcons will do battle in this Mountain West Conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM ET.
Television-wise, the matchup will be broadcast on CBSS.
Bulldogs Looking To Keep Defense RollingThe Fresno State Bulldogs are slowly finding their game again. After losing some close games the first two weeks, they were able to get back to back double-digit wins over Sac State and NM State. Two weeks ago, Fresno State beat NM State 30-17. The game was done by halftime and quarterback Jorge Reyna went 20 for 31, for 147 yards, and zero touchdowns. Running back Jalen Cropper had an amazing game with five carries, 118 rushing yards, and one touchdown.
Here is what quarterback Jorge Reyna had to say about the Bulldogs state of mind:
“Everything we do here is not where we want it to be,” he said. “We expect better. We demand better and we need to prepare and execute even better.
The Bulldogs will be rested for this game because they just had a bye week. They are one of the top-scoring teams in the nation, averaging around 30 points a contest. Their rushing unit has been solid and averaging 165.3 yards a game. However, their defense has been pretty average, giving up around 26.5 points a game. The Bulldogs rushing defense could be a lot better because they give up around 100 plus yards per game. With the passing defense, they could tighten some things up and not let those big quarters happen. Even though this team beat some below-average teams, you can tell that their game is getting better. They will try to stop playing from behind and find their game early against Air Force.
Falcons Looking To Have A Complete EffortThe Air Force Falcons have taken care of business against the teams that they should beat. They usually score around 30 points a game and gave great efforts in their losses to #14 Boise State and Navy. Last week, they lost to Navy 34-25. The Falcons couldn't get their offense going until the fourth quarter and quarterback Donald Hammond III went 10 for 25, for 205 yards, zero touchdowns. and one interception.
Here is what defensive end Jordan Jackson had to say about their game against Navy:
“We didn’t play well on that last drive,” said Air Force defensive end Jordan Jackson, who drew the holding penalty that set up the second-and-20. “We needed a stop and didn’t get it. But we also didn’t want to be in that spot to begin with where it came down to one drive.”
The Falcons offense has really being strong. Their passing attack has been a little weak. Their running game has been insane and they average around 287 yards a game. Air Force has played decent at home. This team can struggle at times with taking care of the football. Last week, they turned the ball over four times, just trying to do simple running plays. The control can be there sometimes and then everything collapses together. That's why this team will look to play a game clean game. Air Force is good at storming up the field and stacking up those first downs. Their defense needs to clean things up a bit.
Air Force is:
- Falcons are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games overall.
- Falcons are 6-19-1 ATS in their last 26 conference games.
- Falcons are 0-3-1 ATS in their last 4 games following an ATS loss.
Fresno State is:
- Bulldogs are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games on grass.
- Bulldogs are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games after accumulating less than 170 yards passing in their previous game.
- Bulldogs are 6-1-1 ATS in their last 8 games after accumulating more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Bulldogs are starting to find their strong game again and they will take advantage of the bad Falcons defense. Air Force will try to tighten things up, but Fresno State will finally have a game where they play well from the start. The Bulldogs have had a lot of close games and lately, they have been able to pick up some solid wins. This team knows they can play better and they will do well with the opportunities that are given to them. The defense is slowly getting better, but they still have some things to work out. Both teams have similar defenses and that will make for a tight game, with a lot of scoring.
Prediction: Fresno State Bulldogs +3.5
Full-Game Total Pick
This game will go over 51 points because these teams like to give up points in chunks. Both these teams can score around 30 points a game, but they also give up almost the same amount on defense. The Fresno State defense seems to be getting better, but they still had a somewhat tough time stopping some below-average teams. Air Force not protecting the ball, led to some easy scores in their game against Navy. Both these teams love running the ball and getting those rushing touchdowns. They only have one or two standout receivers to throw the ball to. There will be a mix of short passes, a lot of running, and a good flow of scoring. Fresno State wins 34-27.
Prediction: Over 51
