Rivals Georgia and South Carolina square off Saturday in an Southeastern Conference match up. Georgia comes into this game ranked No. 3 in the nation with a record of 5-0, while the South Carolina Gamecocks are 2-3. The Bulldogs have won the last 4 meetings, including a 41-17 win last year. Georgia is a big favorite here, favored by about 24 points in the early lines. The game kicks off Saturday at noon Eastern at Sanford Stadium in Athens, Georgia.
South Carolina always gets up to play Georgia, but this year, they really are going to have a tough time keeping pace. The Gamecocks are off to a 2-3 start, including 1-2 in the SEC. They hung in with Alabama in the first half before losing 47-23, and then they got drubbed at Missouri. But the Gamecocks rebounded with a 24-7 win over Kentucky two weeks ago to get their first conference win. The Gamecocks had a bye last week and they will need every bit of energy to challenge Georgia.
The Georgia Bulldogs are once again competing for a national title. They are 5-0 and 2-0 in the SEC and are ranked No. 3 in the country behind only Alabama and Clemson. They don't play Alabama this year, o they could very well be on their way to an undefeated season. They already passed perhaps their toughest test, beating No. 9 Notre Dame a few weeks ago. After a bye week, they rolled over Tennessee 43-14 last weekend. There's no doubt they'll be 6-0 after Saturday's game, but can they cover the big spread?
South Carolina runs past KentuckyThe South Carolina Gamecocks are off to a disappointing 2-3 start including a 1-2 record in the SEC. They had a bye last week following a 24-7 win over Kentucky the previous week. In that win, SC had 387 total yards including 247 yards rushing. Tavien Feaster and Rico Dowdle formed quite the one-two punch in the backfield as both rushed for over 100 yards. Feaster had 107 yards and 2 touchdowns while Dowdle had 102 yards and a touchdown.
“It was frustrating as a running back not being able to get it started (last week),” Feaster said, reported Go Upstate. “This week, we went out there and imposed our will. This is what you work for, these opportunities. You have to be ready when your number is called. (Dowdle) started it off. That’s pushing and motivating me. No. 5 is running the ball very well. Everybody wants to start and everybody wants to be the guy, but we can push each other beyond the limitations we think we have in the back of our minds.”
South Carolina averages 30 points per game, which ranks 63rd n the nation. But the number is inflated by some blow out wins. They average 432 total yards per game, which is 48th in the country. That includes 228 yards per game in the air, which is 79th in the country, and 203 ypg on the ground, which is 38th. Defensively, they allow 24 points per game, which ranks 53rd. They give up 390 total yards per game, which ranks 66th in the nation. They give up 251 ypg in the air, which ranks 96th, and 139 ypg on the ground, which is 53rd in the nation.
USC head coach Will Muschamp is a Georgia graduate and former safety. He's trying to treat it just like another SEC matchup.
"Not a lot (of nostalgia), said Muschamp. "I'm worried about the ball game and winning, so don't really think too much about it. I've really only been back to Georgia -- one time at LSU, one time at Auburn and one time at South Carolina, during my coaching career. As a (graduate assistant), maybe two different times at Auburn, so I think four times since 1994 have I been back to Athens. I've been recruiting there a couple of times, but we had a great experience."
Bulldogs flex their musclesThe Georgia Bulldogs are once again in the running for a national title. They are 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the SEC They rank top 10 in both offense and defense, nationally. Last week they scored an easy 43-14 win over Tennessee. The Bulldogs tallied 526 total yards and gave up only 70 yards on the ground. Quarterback Jake Fromm was an efficient 24 for 29 for 288 yards and 2 touchdowns. Brian Herrien had 88 yards rushing and a touchdown while D'Andre Swift had 72 yards and a touchdown. Swift also caught four passes for 72 yards.

Georgia's offense is great. They average 42 points per game, which ranks 12th in the nation. They average 512 total yards per game, which is 11th in the country. That includes 262 yards per game in the air, which is 47th in the country, and 250 ypg on the ground, which is 13th. The Bulldogs defense is awesome. They allow just 10 points per game, which ranks 7th. They give up 278 total yards per game, which ranks 13th. They give up 219 ypg in the air, which ranks 62nd, and just 59 ypg on the ground, which is 5th in the nation.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Take the Bulldogs here. The Bulldogs have just been blowing people out this year. Aside from a close game against Notre Dame, their average margin of victory has been huge. For example, last week they pounded Tennessee by 29 points at Tennessee. This week they are playing at home and should easily cover. Look for Georgia quarterback Jake Fromm to have a big game. South Carolina has a lackluster secondary, so Fromm should be able to shred it. SC's strength is their running game but Georgia is one of the best run-stuffing teams in the nation, allowing just 59 yards per game. Georgia has owned this matchup against the spread and the favorite is 7-2 against the spread in their last 9 meetings between these two.
Prediction: Georgia -24.5
Full-Game Total Pick
Take the over. I love the over in this one. Georgia has one of the best offenses in the country. They average almost 43 points per game and rack up over 500 total yards per game. South Carolina is over their skis here. The Gamecocks have not fared well against the top teams. Truth is, they gave up 47 points to Alabama and 34 to Missouri. I don't see them holding down Georgia. While their offensive numbers are good, they are skewed by a couple of blowout wins. They'll get blown out with Georgia scoring enough to push this into the over. The over is 5-1 in the last 6 meetings between these two and 4-1 in the last 5 meetings in Georgia. Also, the over is 4-1 in the Gamecock's last 5 games following a straight up win and 4-0 in the Bulldogs last 4 vs. a team with a losing record.
