Game Stats

FAU Owls

3 - 3

Marshall Thundering Herd

4 - 2

The Florida Atlantic Owls (3-3) travels to Huntington, West Virginia to take on the Marshall Thundering Herd (4-2) in a Conference USA East Division matchup. The Owls are coming off an impressive 52-33 win over Old Dominion and Marshall is also coming off a strong win over Old Dominion. Kickoff at Joan C. Edwards Stadium is scheduled for 2:30 pm eastern.

Devin Singletary Runs Like the Wind

Florida Atlantic averages 34.7 points per game on 481 total yards of offense. 244.3 passing yards and 236.7 rushing yards is how the Owls get the job done. Freshman QB Chris Robison has completed 115 of his 178 passing attempts for 1416 yards, seven TD’s, six interceptions and has been sacked five times. Robison is also prone to run the ball and has 152 yards and two TD’s on 46 attempts. When Robison throws he likes his go to guy is Junior WR Jovon Durante (37-497-2).

Junior RB Devin Singletary is already the Owls All-Time leading rusher and he’s racked up 627 yards and 14 TD’s on 131 attempts.

FAU converts 39 percent of its third downs, 54 percent of its fourth downs and has scored on 22 of their 23 Red Zone possessions this season.

The Owls defense allows 38.7 points per game; 277 passing yards and 189 rushing yards. FAU has allowed 30 TD’s and teams convert 41 percent of their third downs, 54 percent of their fourth downs and teams have scored on 20 of their 21 Red Zone possessions. The Owls defense has recorded seven sacks and five interceptions this season.

Ty Tyler Has Six Sacks

The Thundering Herd average 28.8 points per game on 403 total yards. Marshall averages 243.8 passing yards and 159.2 rushing yards. Freshman QB Isaiah Green missed last week’s game against Old Dominion and his status is unavailable at this time. If Green can’t play junior QB Alex Thomson will get the start. Last week against Old Dominion Thomson threw for 182 yards on 18-29 passing and one TD. He also threw one interception and was sacked once. Senior WR Tyre Brady is the leading receiver with 530 yards and six TD’s on 41 catches. Workhorse RB Tyler King has 530 yards and three TD’s on 87 attempts. When the Thundering Herd gets close to the goaline Senior RB Anthony Anderson gets the call and he’s answered with six TD’s on just 36 carries.

The Marshall defense allows 379.8 total yards on 276.3 passing yards and 103 rushing yards. Marshall has allowed 17 TD’s and teams convert 38 percent of its third downs and 41 percent of its fourth downs. Opponents have scored on 24 of their 29 Red Zone possessions, they have five interceptions and 20 sacks. Junior DL Ty Tyler leads the Thundering Herd with six sacks.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.

Full-Game Side Bet

This is going to be a high scoring game. FAU has been preparing for this game for at least ten days and while there is such a thing as over-preparing I’m not sure that will be the case here. My biggest thing in this game is how in the world will Marshall stop Devin Singletary? Marshall does a tremendous job against the rush but Singletary is a special back and maybe Marshall slows him down a bit but they won’t stop him.

The other question is Isaiah Green; if he can’t go how in the heck does this Marshall offense contend with the FAU defense? FAU can’t stop anyone via the air so how does Alex Thomson handle his business in what is a big game? I don’t want to put my money on that so I won’t. Nor should you. Lay the points and roll with the Owls on Saturday!

Prediction: FAU -3

Full-Game Total Pick

There isn’t any reason for us not to believe this game won’t be a shootout. We have two high scoring teams who don’t seem to emphasize defense very much going at it in a Conference game that means something to both teams. FAU has has a while to prepare and Marshall is coming off a win over Old Dominion. Both teams in total allow more points between them than the total and they both score more than the total.

You should play the over but wait until and see what the public is doing with the number. You are already playing the over but it’s always nice to get a lower total whenever possible and with the total dropping nearly a point since I started writing this I suspect it will settle around 56 or so……..play the OVER on Saturday!!!!!!

Prediction: Over 59.5 Points
