Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Purdue Boilermakers
College Football Week 8: Saturday, October 20th 2018 7:30 PM EST TIME
The Ohio State Football team is looking to keep their perfect record alive as they head for yet another road game as they take on the Purdue Boilermakers. The Buckeyes have been one of the better teams to back with in betting as they come into this game with a couple of touchdowns to cover. On the flip side, the Purdue Boilermakers are making a nice run late in the season as they have won three straight games.
Perfect But Still #2
Even though the Ohio State Buckeyes are looking to keep their perfect season alive, they have yet to do more than expected to claim the number one rank in college football. That spot currently fits in with the Alabama Crimson Tide, however, a couple of strong wins could keep the Buckeyes a lock for the championship playoffs. The Buckeyes are looking to improve to 8-0 on the season as this will be the second time in the past four years as this will be the second game on the road for them. It will be a good road test for them as well as the Purdue Boilermakers have been dropping 40 points in their recent wins. It will be interesting to see if the Buckeyes will be able to cover this large spread. The Buckeyes also come into this game with winning only eight of their past 11 road games as this will be a challenge within itself.

As for how the Ohio State Buckeyes could continue their winning streak, they must get the passing game going early. The Buckeyes are a passing first team as they lead the league in a lot of categories. First, let’s take a look at the quarterback position. On the season, Dwayne Haskins is completing 72.3 percent of his passes for 2,331 yards along with a team-high 28 touchdowns. He has been the GOAT behind this team as he has accomplished throwing for at least four touchdowns in six of the past eight games. However some bad news for Ohio State, Purdue has yet to allow over a 350-yard passer.
Here Come The Boilermakers
The Purdue Boilermakers have been one of my favorite teams to watch as they have the fire power and talent to potential knock off a top team in the conference right now. Coming into this game with winning three straight games, this is the perfect time for the Boilermakers to be taking on the #2 team in the country. This could be their fourth straight win in a row and will be the statement win they needed as taking care of ranked Boston College was not enough for them to get the credit they deserved. Even though the Boilermakers come into this game with some momentum, they have not had success at home in recent tries. They have lost five of the past eight homes games, but have only lost by less than ten points in those games.

Just like the Ohio State Buckeyes, the Purdue Boilermakers are a pass-happy team. How pass happy are they? Well in their loss against the Missouri Tigers in the third week of the season, quarterback David Blough would throw for 572 passing yards and three touchdowns. It does not matter the score, the Boilermakers will continue to throw the football. Coming into this game, Blough has four touchdown passes in four of his last six games. Even though the Boilermakers have one of the best passing offenses in college football, they are also in the mid-pack of getting almost 180 rushing yards per contest. In hindsight, this team will score and possible often against Ohio State.
- Boilermakers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
- Boilermakers are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win.
- Boilermakers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game.
- Boilermakers are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
- Boilermakers are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
- Boilermakers are 5-1 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
- Buckeyes are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games after accumulating more than 280 yards passing in their previous game.
- Buckeyes are 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games in October.
- Buckeyes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a straight up win.
- Buckeyes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 road games.
- Buckeyes are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- Buckeyes are 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Boilermakers rarely get the spotlight on them, as they are coming off back to back games where they scored forty points or more. Now with everyone watching, expect them to have that same type of attitude and open playbook willingness as they will easily cover the high spread. I’m almost even tempted to take the Boilermakers straight up.
Prediction: Purdue +13.5
Full-Game Total Pick
Both the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Purdue Boilermakers love to throw the ball and often. It is the fastest way to score points as I see that happening a lot in this one. There is a reason why the Over is 4-0 in Buckeyes last 4 games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game. As well the Over being 4-1 in Boilermakers last 5 home games vs. a team with a winning road record. Expect a QB showdown as these two teams gun it out under the lights.
