Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Florida State Seminoles
NCAAF: Saturday, October 20, 2018, Doak Campbell Stadium, Tallahassee, Florida, 3:30 PM ET
The Wake Forest Demon Deacons suffered the third defeat of the campaign and third at home as Clemson destroyed them, and now they are trying to bounce back against the conference rivals on the road. On the other hand, the Florida State Seminoles were on a two-game winning run and came agonizingly close to the third in a row but Miami came from behind to hand them a tough defeat.
The Demon Deacons conceded season-high 63 points in a blowout loss to the Tigers
Wake Forest secured a comfortable victory over Rice before they hosted one of the strongest teams in college football, the Clemson Tigers, and suffered a heavy 63-3 defeat. The Demon Deacons recorded just 249 total yards in opposite to Clemson’s 698, while their passing was disastrous as they collected miserable 74 yards. Rushing was better, though, and Wake Forest has a top 20 rushing offense that is averaging 232.8 yards per contest. However, they are facing a top 10 defense against the running that allows just 101.2 yards per game, so the visitors will have a mountain to climb to do damage on the ground here.
Freshman quarterback Sam Hartman is completing 55.4 percent of his passes for 1259 yards with ten touchdowns and six interceptions for the Demon Deacons. He had a horrible game in a loss to Clemson, completing only seven passes for 74 yards and an interception and Wake Forest needs him to bounce back and display much better showing on this one.
The Seminoles dropped a 20-point lead in a loss to the Hurricanes
Florida State beat Northern Illinois and Louisville to improve to 3-2 and had a big, 20-point lead against the Miami Hurricanes at home but a late surge from the visitors prevented the Seminoles from making it three in a row. The Seminoles didn’t deserve to win as they recorded only 200 total yards in opposite to Miami’s 306 and their offense wasn’t good enough in a 28-27 loss. Florid State had 130 passing yards which is way below their season average of 251.2 but luckily for them, they are facing Wake Forest’s defense that allows 264.2 yards to the opposing receivers and the Seminoles will have a nice opportunity to hurt the visitors through the air on this one.
Junior quarterback Deondre Francois is completing 61 percent of his passes for 1506 yards with 11 touchdowns and six interceptions for the Seminoles. He threw for only 129 yards with a pair of touchdowns and an interception in a loss to the Hurricanes and Francois must do a way better job against the Demon Deacons if Florida Stata wasn’t to win.
- 6-1 ATS in their last seven games following an ATS win
- 4-1 ATS in their last five games after accumulating less than 100 yards rushing in their previous game
- 6-2 ATS in their last eight games on grass
- 1-4 ATS in their last five games following an ATS loss
- 1-7 ATS in their last eight games overall
- 1-5 ATS in their last six games following a straight up loss of more than 20 points
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Florida State won eight out of the previous ten H2H encounters including the last six, while the Seminoles were victorious in the past four meetings at the Doak Campbell Stadium. The underdog is 9-4-1 ATS in their last 14 duels but the home team is 5-2-1 ATS in their last eight meetings, so I am going with the hosts on this one. The rivalry between these schools is the big one but the Seminoles have been outstanding in H2H tilts at home and although they are scoring only 23 points per contest so far, the Demon Deacons are allowing 36.8 points per game, and I don’t think the hosts will have trouble to beat Wake Forest.
Prediction: Florida State Seminoles -10.5
Full-Game Total Pick
Even though the under is 4-0 in the last four meetings and under is 5-1 in the previous six duels in Tallahassee, I am expecting plenty of points here because over is 7-3 in Seminoles last ten games following a bye week, while over is 5-0 in Demon Deacons previous five games overall.
