Brooks Stadium, in Conway, South Carolina, is the site for a 5:30 pm Sun Belt Conference matchup between the Arkansas State Red Wolves and the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Arkansas State is coming off a 38-14 victory over South Alabama and the Chanticleers lost to Appalachian State last week by the score of 23-7.
Arkansas State Pounds South Alabama
Justice Hansen threw for three touchdowns, including a 78-yard touchdown strike to Justin McInnis, and the Red Wolves pounded South Alabama 38-14. Hansen threw for 332 yards on the day and also rushed for 25 yards and a touchdown. Running Back Warren Wand rushed for 77 yards and a touchdown and McInnis finished the day with 177 receiving yards. The Red Wolves racked up 509 total yards and the defense allowed just 249 total yards for their second Sun Belt Conference win of the season.
The Arkansas State defense allows 30 points per game and allows an average of 396 yards per game. Teams convert 36 percent of their third downs, 58 percent of their fourth downs and score on 78 percent of their trips to the Red Zone. The Red Wolves defense has scored on a fumble recovery and a pick six this season, six interceptions and has sacked opposing quarterbacks 23 times this season. This is a fairly decent defensive unit.
The Chants Homecoming Game Spoiled by App State!
Coastal Carolina couldn’t get their offense going and had way too much Darrynton Evans and his 159 rushing yards and fell to Appalachian State 20-3 last Saturday. Coastal Carolina converted just one of their ten third downs and amassed a grand total of 178 yards against the stout defense of App State. Quarterback Fred Payton threw for 79 yards, one interception and fumbled the ball twice. The lone bright spot came on the defense when cornerback Derambez Drinkard picked off a pass and returned it 60 yards to the house for the Chanticleers only score of the day.
Sophomore Derambez Drinkard had ✌️ interceptions yesterday versus App State.
He is the 13th player in CCU history to record two INTs in the same game and the first since 2016.

Full-Game Side Bet
After getting embarrassed on homecoming weekend, I think Coastal Carolina will come out guns blazing. Or, I should say, the combination of CJ Marable and Marcus Outlow is going to outrun the Red Wolves. And why not? The Red Wolves defense allows 181 rushing yards a game and after last week’s total shutdown I see both of them wanting to go off. And I believe they can. The Chants secondary is pretty good and I don’t think the Red Wolves are going to be able to score big like they sometimes do. I will play the home dog in this one.
Prediction: Coastal Carolina +6
Full-Game Total Pick
Some folks I’ve spoken with think this game is going to be a high scoring affair, but I don’t think so. The defenses are too good for that and the offenses from both sides aren’t as good as the defenses are. And at this point of the season, teams are who they are and in this one I see a 28-24 type game, and I think I’m being a bit generous with this. So, I will be playing the under on Saturday afternoon.
Prediction: Under 61 Points
