Baylor Bears vs Iowa State Cyclones
Where and when: Jack Trice Stadium, Ames, Iowa, Saturday, 3:30 pm EST
The Baylor Bears will travel to Jack Trice Stadium in Ames, Iowa, on Saturday to battle the Iowa State Hawkeyes beginning at 3:30 pm EST. The Bears are coming off a confidence-building win at home versus the Oklahoma State Cowboys as they picked up the 35-31 win as Charlie Brewer threw one of his two touchdown passes on the night to Denzel Mims to seal the victory in the final seconds, thus halting a two-game losing streak.
The Cyclones have won four straight games with their last being a 27-3 road victory over the Kansas Jayhawks as Brock Purdy threw three touchdown passes for the game while the defense held the Jayhawks to only 332 yards total for the contest. The Cyclones beat the Bears in their last matchup by a 23-13 score on the road while also covering as 7.5-point road favorites. The Bears are 0-3-1 ATS in their last four meetings in Ames while the home team is 9-3-1 ATS in the last 13 meetings amongst the Bears and the Cyclones.
Cyclones are red-hot at a great time
After a 1-3 start to the season, the Cyclones have won four straight games on the strength of their defense, which has allowed just 21 points per game during their streak, while the offense is averaging 38 points per game. Furthermore, they are currently in third place within the Big 12 just behind the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Oklahoma Sooners. Brock Purdy passed for three touchdown passes as he has thrown a combined 12 TD’s alongside only two picks during their four-game streak. Hakeem Butler had his third straight 100-yard game as he collected 164 yards and two scores. David Montgomery rushed for 64 yards on 14 attempts for an offense that put up only 394 yards for the contest.
The defense for the Cyclones was solid as usual in allowing just 332 total yards to the Jayhawks as their 15th ranked rush defense allowed 147 yards on the ground yet giving up only 4.3 yards per catch to the Kansas passing attack.
Baylor gains confidence in win versus Cowboys
Baylor halted a two-game losing streak with a slim home victory over the reeling Oklahoma State Cowboys as Charlie Brewer was the man of the hour in throwing for only 56 yards, yet, having the winning touchdown late in the game for a much-needed win. They are now even within the Big 12 conference at 3-3, however, will only be playing for bowl positioning as they are 5-4 overall. With a remaining schedule entailing a home game versus struggling TCU along with an up and down Texas Tech team on the road to end their 2018 campaign, Baylor will certainly look for finish up strong. The issue has been not their ability to score, but, the inability of he defenses to stop anyone all season.

Baylor is currently ranking low in just about every defensive category this year as they illustrated this in their last outing versus the Cowboys in giving up over 500 yards in total offense along with 212 yards rushing for a 4.5 yards per rush average. Despite the win, the defense has given up 30 or more points in four of their last five games, overall.
- Cyclones are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games in November.
- Cyclones are 8-0-1 ATS in their last 9 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
- Under is 9-1 in Cyclones last 10 games following a straight up win.
- Bears are 4-0-1 ATS in their last 5 games after allowing more than 200 yards rushing in their previous game.
- Bears are 0-5 ATS in their last 5 games following an ATS win.
- Over is 4-1 in Bears last 5 road games.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I will Iowa State in this matchup as they are on a roll at this point in the season and can certainly shown that they can pull it together as a team late in games in which to pull out victories in 2018. The Bears, while having a high-octane passing attack, will be overwhelmed by a solid Cyclones defensive unit that have locked down opponents all year. In fact, they even neutralized the high scoring offense of the West Virginia Mountaineers just a few weeks ago in allowing just 14 points for the game. In all, take the Cyclones to be victorious in the Big 12 matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Prediction: Pick: Iowa State Cyclones -1000
Full-Game Total Pick
The under was indeed the result in last year’s matchup amongst these two teams and I certainly expect this to be the outcome in this year’s contest as well. In all, the under has been the result in five of eight games for the Cyclones this year while also being the play in two of the last three games, overall, for Baylor. With that being said, expect the defensive units to step up in this game while ensuring that the under will indeed be the strong pick in an all-important matchup for both.
Prediction: Pick: Under 51
Full-Game Prop Bet
I will back the Bears in this matchup to cover as they have simply been playing much better on offense despite their terrible defense. Also, while Iowa State has been great at home this year, look for the Bears to really test this defense on Saturday as they are certainly looking to end the season on a winning note. Keeping this game close and competitive versus a surging team such as the Cyclones will certainly be a highlight to their season. In all, take the Bears and the points as they will surprise many with their playmakers on the outside along with Brewer’s passing ability.
Prediction: Pick: Baylor Bears +17
Half-Time Side Pick
While the Cyclones will certainly attempt to do their best in ensuring that the Baylor passing game does not get going early on, the fact is that Baylor will indeed stay in this game throughout the first half. It is for this reason that I will certainly back them and the points. Also, there is much on the line for both teams and I happen to believe that both defenses will step up in which to keep the game manageable by not allowing their team to fall behind early.
Prediction: Pick: Baylor Bears +9.5
Half-Time Total Bet
Despite Baylor’s passing offense being potent, look for the Cyclones to buckle down on defense as they have so many time this year against dangerous offenses in which to keep the score low. Expect this to be the case in this contest as the offense for the home team will rely heavily on their rushing attack to maintain possession while keeping the Bears offense off the field. With that being the case, look for the total not to surpass the 25.5 points set for the half in this matchup.
Prediction: Pick: Under 25.5
Half-Time Prop Prediction
While they may experience some issues with the Baylor offensive attack early on, look for the Cyclones to figure things out as they have done as a team all season. This, in essense, means that the home team will certainly cash in on the money line as the half approaches. Again, the overall strength of their defense will certainly keep them in the game while also allowing them to preserve a small lead at the end of the second quarter.
Prediction: Pick: Iowa State Cyclones -460
