Wisconsin Badgers vs Penn State Nittany Lions
Where and when: Beaver Stadium, University Park, Pennsylvania, Saturday, 12:00 pm EST
The up and down Wisconsin Badgers will travel to Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania, to battle the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday afternoon at noon. The Badgers are 2-2 in their last four outings and picked up a huge 31-17 home win over the Rutgers Scarlett Knights in their last time out. On the other hand, Penn State was embarrassed on the road versus the Michigan Wolverines as they fell by a 42-7 score. They put up only 186 yards for the game while Trace McSorley threw for only 83 yards and a pick.
In all, the Nittany Lions have lost three of their last five games and will certainly be looking to get back on track with a win. Penn State may be getting the Badgers at a great time as they won and covered in their matchup last year by a 38-31 score as the Nittany Lions covered as 3-point underdogs. The over has been the play in the last five outings amongst these teams while the Badgers are 1-5 ATS in the last six meetings versus Penn State.
McSorley struggles at Nittany Lions drop another dismal loss
Just when one may have thought that the Nittany Lions had turned the corner from two consecutive losses, they prove him/her wrong in laying an egg in one of their biggest games of the year. A 42-6 shellacking by Michigan is what sent Penn State back to reality once again this year as they are certainly struggling as a squad at a terrible time of year. And even being at home versus the Badgers may not give them the type of advantage that they need in that they are only 1-2 in Happy Valley this season.

Of course, playing on the road has been a bit kinder as they came into the Michigan game undefeated, yet were destroyed by a Michigan defense that held them scoreless for three quarters until Tommy Stevens scored on an eight-yard run to break the shutout. Trace McSorley, who has thrown only one TD along with three picks in his last three games, only threw for 83 yards and a pick in the game while the rushing attack posted 68 yards for the game.
The defense for the Nittany Lions allowed the highly ranked rushing offense of Michigan to put up 259 yards for the game with a 5 yards per rush average. Shea Patterson threw for two touchdowns while scoring a TD on the ground as well. Karan Higdon had the bulk of the yardage for the Wolverines as he finished with 132 yards and a score for a Wolverine team that remains in the top spot within the East division of the Big Ten.
Badgers beat up on Scarlett Knights
Wisconsin has been up and down lately on both sides of the ball. Nonetheless, it is a fact that they are much better at home (5-1 SU) than they are on the road (1-2 SU). With that being the case, they preceded to get back into the win column with a convincing win over the lowly Rutgers Scarlett Knights in last weekend’s matchup. Most importantly, they picked up the win due to their 4th ranked rushing attack that put up 3217 yards on the ground and led by Jonathan Taylor who rushed for 208 yards along with three touchdowns. This is in response to a game in which he had only 46 yards rushing versus Northwestern which broke his streak of consecutive games with 100 or more yards (7).

On the other hand, Wisconsin could get nothing much out of their passing attack that currently ranks 110th in the league as this area would only account for 156 yards total as Alex Hornibrook threw for 92 yards and two picks. In fact, In Hornibrook’s last three games, he has thrown four TD’s alongside six picks. He is questionable for this matchup due to a head injury.
The defense for Wisconsin has been solid in allowing just 20 points per game; However, in their last two road games, the D has allowed 34 per game to their opponents. Most alarming, the Wisconsin offense has put up only 15 points per game during this time. In all, Wisconsin could likely struggle on offense in this contest versus a pesky and ticked off Penn State defense that were flat out pushed around last week versus the Wolverines.

- Badgers are 0-4 ATS in their last 4 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Nittany Lions are 3-1 ATS in their last four home games, while the Badgers have covered in only one road game this year. Combine this with the fact that the Badgers have exchanged wins for losses all season, look for them to have a bad go of it this week versus a Penn State team that should really be fired up to play and get back onto the field after being ran off the field in Ann Arbor in their last outing.
Prediction: Pick: Penn State Nittany Lions -300
Full-Game Total Pick
This will certainly be an under game with both teams looking to utilize their rushing attacks throughout the game. Of course, neither team will find much momentum early as this will be such an important game for both, so, expect both squads to fight for every inch in this matchup. In all, the clock will tick as the rushing game will take its toll, thus allowing for the under to be the strong play on Saturday in this Big Ten showdown.
Prediction: Pick: Under 52.5
Full-Game Prop Bet
As stated, while both teams struggled mightily in their last outing, look for the Nittany Lions to get back on track in this game due to their rushing attack along with an inconsistent Wisconsin road team. Also, look for Penn State to really come out with a vengeance in this game as they have flat out been pushed around for the past few weeks. Nonetheless, look for them to come out of their funk while playing much better versus a Wisconsin team that has played well all season, however, stinks it up away from Wisconsin.
Prediction: Pick: Penn state Nittany Lions -8
Half-Time Side Pick
With the Nittany Lions utilizing their rushing game and finding success versus the Badgers in this mathup, look for this to offer more opportunities for the home team in which to put some scores on the field early. Also, the Penn State defense will have much to prove in this matchup as well as they have allowed Michigan to expose them a bit as not being physical in the trenches. It is for this reason that I will back them to have a great showing on Saturday afternoon in what will be an exciting game in Happy Valley.
Prediction: Pick: Penn State Nittany Lions -4.5
Half-Time Total Bet
I will back the under in this contest as I see both defenses neutralizing each offense to the point where they will not be many points scored in the first half. Of course, the Nittany Lions will take advantage of offensive opportunities early and will be rewarded; However, look for them to labor along in the first half due to a focused Wisconsin squad that continues to have much to play for.
Prediction: Pick: Under 26.5
Half-Time Prop Prediction
Again, look for Penn State to rebound after a rough patch lately at home where they have played much better this season. As stated, look for them to set the pace of this game through defense while also utiluzing their rushing attack in which to allow for McSorley to come out of this funk within the passing attack. In all, look for the home team to cash in on the money line at the half.
Prediction: Pick: Penn State Nittany Lions -230
