Bulldogs Looking For Another High Scoring WinThe Louisiana Tech Bulldogs are having a great season. They have the best record in Conference USA and they are first in the C-USA West Division. The Bulldogs have won eight games in a row and most of their games have been double-digit wins. Their offense has gotten better each week and now they score around 40 plus points a game. Last week, they beat North Texas 52-17. Their scoring slowly went up throughout the game and quarterback J'mar Smith went 21 for 38, for 263 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

According to thenewsstar.com, Bulldogs coach had this to say about the Marshall offense:
“Offensively, I don’t know there’s a team we can compare them to,” Holtz said. “They have three tight ends, but they all have different skill sets. One can go out, play receiver, tight end, athletic, out of backfield, catch balls. One-on-one mismatches for the guys in the secondary.
The Bulldogs are one of the best offenses around. They have been averaging 38.1 points per game and almost 500 yards. It's hard to get a good feel for this team because they really haven't had any challenges yet. Even though that might be true, you have to admire the consistency of this offense. Smith has taken his game to another level this season and his completion percentage has gone up to 65 percent. He might be setting career highs in touchdowns and passing yards. Also, the guy knows how to take care of the ball because he only has four interceptions on the season. Smith also runs a lot as well. Their defense has been solid for most of the season and they are good at stopping the run when they need to.
Marshall Looking To Keep Pace In DivisionThe Marshall Thundering Herd have also had a nice season. They are second in the C-USA East Division and they need this game so they can be tied with FL Atlantic for first in the division. The Thundering Herd have won four games in a row and are 4-1 at home. They have had a mix of close and high scoring games. Also, their defense does show up sometimes and it did against some good teams. Two weeks ago, Marshall beat winless Rice 20-7. The defense shut them down for three quarters and quarterback Isaiah Green went 17 for 22, for 269 yards, and one touchdown.
According to redshirt sophomore Brenden Knox, the Herd need to get their game going early:
“The biggest thing is the young guys still making plays on the outside,” Knox said. “Getting into a groove early on with the offensive line and feeling good about themselves early is big.”
The Thundering Herd are one of the best rushing teams in the conference. They average over 200 yards per game and they will need to get their game going early. However, if the Bulldogs shut down the running game, it might be hard for Green to win this game with his arm. Their defense has been a little average and gives up around 24 points per game. The defense also gives up an average of 371 yards a game. It's concerning that this team could only score 20 points against lowly Rice. So, who knows how productive this offense can really be against a good opponent.
The top supporting trends for Marshall, found on Covers.com, are:
- Thundering Herd are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games on fieldturf.
- Thundering Herd are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games following a bye week.
- Thundering Herd are 2-8 ATS in their last 10 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
The top supporting trends for Louisiana Tech, found on Covers.com, are:
- Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
- Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games overall.
- Bulldogs are 7-1 ATS in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a winning home record.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Bulldogs will win this toss up game. The Thundering Herd have the pieces to win this game and they are at home as well. The Bulldogs are the better defensive team and they have the more productive quarterback, who can do damage with his arm, and legs. Louisiana Tech will continue to score points. Marshall will have success on offense, but their defense can't match the Bulldogs more efficient stop jobs. It's a big game for both sides because of the impact it has on their conference standings. The Bulldogs are the hot team, undefeated in conference play, and have had easy wins for weeks. That confidence should carry over into this game.
Prediction: Louisiana Tech Bulldogs +2.5
Full-Game Total Pick
This game will go under 56 points because these teams will go back and forth with getting good scoring drives and then being stopped out of nowhere. Sure the Bulldogs have scored 42 plus points in four games, but they will score less in this tighter game, that features a decent defense. Marshall's scoring has been going backwards a bit and they are use to close games. They can score with ease, but they give up points too easily as well. Since this is such a big game for the conference, the defenses will step up a bit. Bulldogs win 30-24.
Prediction: Under 56
