#199 San Jose State at #200 UNLV
When and where: Nov. 23, 2019. Sam Boyd Stadium, Las Vegas, NV, 9 p.m.
The last few years, this would have been the battle between the bottom two teams in the Mountain West Conference West Division. And while the Rebels can still make that claim, the Spartans can still get to bowl eligibility if they can win their last two games.
Spartans making late push for bowl bid
San Jose State was cruising toward bowl eligibility until the team lost its last two games, against Boise State and Hawaii. They were off last week, but finish the season against the 2-8 Rebels on the road and then at home against rival Fresno State.
Josh Love leads a strong passing attack with 3,168 yards on the season with 19 touchdowns and only four interceptions.
In their last game, they lost a heartbreaker at Hawaii, 42-40. The Spartans led at the half, 23-21, but Hawaii came back to take a 42-33 lead late in the fourth quarter. Love hit Isaiah Hamilton on a 19-yard touchdown pass with 1:15 left but couldn’t score again.
Love passed for 375 yards and two touchdowns in the game while Packer rushed for 112 yards and scored two touchdowns. Walker had 138 receiving yards and Hamilton had 105 for the game.
Josh Love started as a walk-on. Now he’s one of the top passers in the nation 🎥⬇️— San José State Football (@SanJoseStateFB) November 17, 2019

On the season, the Spartans average 416.9 yards per game (61st nationally), including 330.1 through the air (6th). The defense, however, is ranked 113th with 452.8 yards allowed (113th). They also give up 32.9 points per game (106th)
Rebels sitting on four game losing streak
Coach Tony Sanchez had a mandate this season for his squad to be eligible for a bowl game. Ten games in and they have only two wins to show for it, so obviously it’s not going to happen.
At 2-8, the Rebels are equally bad offensively and defensively. They are ranked 101st in total yards at 362.7 yards per game and 109th in scoring at 21.9 points per game. The allow 428.5 points per game (92nd) and give up 33.1 points (109th).
They did play inspired ball against Hawaii last week, holding the high-scoring Rainbow Warriors to only 21 points, but they scored only seven points themselves in another loss.
The Rebels actually had a 7-0 lead in the first quarter as the Warriors turned the ball over a couple of times. But Hawaii came back with touchdowns in each of the last three quarters to put the game away.
• Rebels are 2-5 ATS in their last seven games in November
• Rebels are 1-3-1 ATS in their last five games after scoring less than 20 points in their previous game
• Rebels are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six conference games
The supporting trends for this game, found on Covers.com, are:
• Spartans are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six games following an ATS win
• Spartans are 4-0 ATS in their last four games in November
• Spartans are 5-0-1 ATS in their last six road games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Both San Jose State and UNLV are on losing streaks right now, but the Spartans have at least been competitive in their games. San Jose State is 6-3 against the spread, including 4-0 in road games. The Rebels are 4-5 ATS and 2-2 ATS at home.
The Rebels will have a tough time stopping Love, but they did well in limiting the Hawaii passing attack last week … but they still lost and didn’t cover.
Take San Jose State -5
Prediction: San Jose State -5
Full-Game Total Pick
Both teams could easily go over 30 points in this game, but the thinking here is that the Rebels won’t hold up their end of the deal. Oblad has been very inconsistent and prone to throw interceptions. In fact, UNLV hasn’t scored more than 17 points in their last three games.
The Spartans, however, could score at will against the porous Rebel defense. With bowl eligibility in reach, expect San Jose State to play their best while the Rebels may be looking past this game to next week’s contest against rival Nevada.
Take Under 63.5
