This Saturday, the 16th-ranked Fresno State Bulldogs will travel to Albertsons Stadium to take on the Boise State Broncos. This game will have serious implications on the Mountain West as both teams are in a must-win situation as the loser might miss out on reaching the conference title game with a loss in this contest. Expect this game to be really competitive as both teams will most likely leave it all on the field.
Rypien Looks To Carry Broncos To Victory
Boise State entered the season as the favorite to win the Mountain West conference similarly to the way the team did last season. However, the Broncos suffered an early season upset against conference foe San Diego State and have been trying to climb back into the top spot of their division. The Broncos are currently one game behind Utah State but those two teams will play each other in the last week of the regular season which means that Boise State will make it into the conference title game if the team wins out.

Boise State’s offense is led by star quarterback Brett Rypien who has looked fantastic. This season, Rypien has thrown for over 2,700 passing yards along with 24 touchdown passes and just six interceptions. He is the heart and soul of this team as his senior leadership has propelled the Broncos back into conference title contention. In the team’s last three games, Rypien has been tremendous as he has thrown ten touchdown passes with just one interception. If Boise State plans on winning this game, Rypien will need to be at his best.
Boise State’s offense currently ranks 22nd in the country in points per game with 38.0 and is also averaging 318.9 passing yards per game which ranks 11th. Expect Boise State’s offense to try airing it out once more in front of its home crowd this Saturday.
Fresno State In Midst Of Seven Game Winning Streak
Last season, Fresno State bursted onto the scene as the team managed to go 10-4 and even won a bowl game. The Bulldogs looked to build off of last year’s success and the team has succeeded so far this season. After starting off 1-1 following a loss to Minnesota, the Bulldogs have won seven straight games with five of those wins coming in conference games. Fresno State looks poised for another conference title game appearance but the team will need to win this game in a hostile environment to cement its place in that game.

Fresno State’s offense is led by star quarterback Marcus McMaryion who has been unbelievable this season. So far this season, McMaryion has thrown for over 2,400 passing yards and 20 touchdowns while only throwing three interceptions. However, McMaryion has also been a heavy contributor in the team’s ground game as he has rushed for seven touchdowns as well. Last year, he faced the Broncos twice and had mixed results. In those two games, he threw for a total of two touchdowns and one interception while also scoring two rushing touchdowns as the team split those two meetings. Look for McMaryion to play well in this must-win game.
Fresno State’s offense currently ranks 17th in the country in points per game with 38.4 and is also averaging 280.8 passing yards per game which ranks 24th. Expect Fresno State’s offense to try airing it out as the team will let its best player, McMaryion, try carrying the team to a victory.
- Home team is 1-4 ATS in their last 5 meetings.
- Broncos are 5-15 ATS in their last 20 home games.
- Broncos are 1-4 ATS vs. a team with a winning record.
- Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 meetings against Boise State.
- Bulldogs are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 Friday games.
- Bulldogs are 14-2 ATS in their last 16 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Although Boise State is known for its signature blue field, the team has struggled covering point spreads at home for the last few seasons. Fresno State is the better all-around team and should be able to take care of business with McMaryion leading the way. This is also a revenge game as Fresno State lost the conference title game to Boise State last season so the Bulldogs should have some extra motivation for this contest. Expect this game to be close but I like the favorite to cover here.
Prediction: Fresno State -3
Full-Game Total Pick
Although both teams possess quality quarterbacks, the last five matchups between these teams are 4-1 to the under. I think that both defenses will get up for this game as it is a must-win contest for both teams. I also expect very conservative playcalling in order to limit turnovers from both teams. For those reasons, I have a slight lean to the under in this contest.
Prediction: Under 54
