Saturday afternoon action in the ACC features two teams coming off of completely different weeks. The Florida State Seminoles come off of a loss to Miami and look to rebound after a coaching change mid-week. The Boston College Eagles come in off of a huge win over Syracuse and look to become bowl eligible. Boston College is listed as a two-point favorite and the total is set at 62. The game will be viewable on the ACC Network.
Taggart Out As Coach In TallahasseeFlorida State fired coach Willie Taggart after another disappointing loss this time to in-state rival Miami 27-10. Longtime assistant coach Odell Haggins will assume the role of interim head coach for the rest of the campaign for the Seminoles. Florida State can still win two of their last three games and become bowl eligible this year. Last week was another rough outing for the Seminoles secondary as they were shredded for 313 yards by a normally stagnant Canes passing attack. The offense only amassed 203 yards and the team will look to rally around coach Haggins to somewhat save the season.
Wisconsin transfer quarterback Alex Hornibrook hasn't been terrible since taking over the starting job. He completes 68.9% of his passes and has amassed 986 passing yards and seven touchdowns to just two interceptions. NFL bound Cam Akers has run for 983 yards on 196 carries with 12 touchdowns to go with it. He looks to surpass the 1,000-yard mark this weekend. The defense is headed by defensive back Hamsah Nasirildeen who has 63 total tackles, 40 of which are unassisted. Florida State will need a big game from their key playmakers to pull off a victory here.
Boston College Taking Care Of BusinessThe Eagles come into this game after putting a whooping down on the road against Syracuse 58-27. Boston College had their way with the Orange defense, running the ball for 496 yards total. AJ Dillon had a huge game with 242 yards and three touchdowns on 35 carries. Backup David Bailey had a big game as well with 172 yards and a pair of touchdowns on 16 carries. Quarterback Dennis Grosel was efficient completing eight of his ten passes for 195 yards and a trio of touchdowns.
Grosel stepped into the starting role when Anthony Brown went down for the year with an injury and Grosel has been less than stellar working with what appears to be a somewhat more simple playbook. In his time, the sophomore has completed 41.4% of his passes and has thrown for 483 yards with six touchdowns to one pick, however, he looked much more polished last time around which may be a sign of things to come. AJ Dillon had been an absolute stud and arguably one of the best running backs in the country. He has accounted for 1,286 yards on the ground with 13 touchdowns. The defense is led by linebacker Max Richardson with 87 tackles. This Eagles team relies heavily on their ground game to carry them to victory and a win here will make them bowl eligible.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
I like Boston College in this spot to pull away late and cover. This game is surely to be won on the ground, as both offenses have been electric with their running games. I don't trust Florida State with the state their program is in at the moment. I think interim coach Odell Haggins will still be in the process of figuring out his plan of attack. The Eagles just ran for almost 500 yards against a similarly composed defense in the Syracuse Orange, and I trust Boston College's defense to hold Florida State when it matters in this ACC match. Take Boston College to secure a victory and declare themselves bowl eligible Saturday afternoon.
Prediction: Boston College Eagles -2
Full-Game Total Pick
I like the under here in this ACC conference matchup that will be won by a ground attack. I see many long sustained running drives and a low scoring game. Four of the last five meetings between these two schools have gone under, as well as Florida State's last four conference games. I expect the Seminoles team to be in somewhat of an awkward spot as they feel out the coaching change and the process of reassessing the program. For these reasons, I will back the under in this ACC grudge match.
Prediction: Under 62
