Connecticut Huskies vs. Cincinnati Bearcats Prediction, Preview, and Odds - 11-9-2019
On Saturday afternoon, the Connecticut Huskies and Cincinnati Bearcats will do battle in this American Athletic Conference matchup. Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM ET.
Television-wise, the matchup will be broadcast on CBSS.
UConn Looking For First Win In Conference PlayThe Connecticut Huskies are having a rough season. They are 0-5 in conference play and last in the American East Division. Huskies have lost seven of their last eight games and most of the losses were blowout losses. In their last game, UConn lost big to #25 Navy 56-10. The Huskies gave up 14 points in every quarter and quarterback Jack Zergiotis went 16 for 34, for 205 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. UConn's offense will try to bounce back against a tough Bearcats team.
According to the Hartford Courant, Jack Zergiotis is trying to ‘play smart’ as he adjusts to college game:
“Sometimes I’m trying to do too much," Zergiotis said Tuesday. "And that’s my instinct. But I know I have to be smart about it, to take calculated risks.”
The Huskies haven't played well on either side of the ball. Their offense is almost near the bottom of FBS teams and they have averaged around 20.3 points per game. Their defense is even worse, as they allow 39.8 points per game. They have shown some fight in a few big spreads, but not against ranked teams. Zergiotis needs to limit those interceptions and the Bearcats defense will try to snag a few this weekend. This team does have a decent running game. All in all, when it comes to numbers with this team, the stats are horrid.
Bearcats Looking For Third Blowout Win Of The SeasonThe Cincinnati Bearcats are rolling. They are 17th in the nation and have won six in a row. They are first in the American East Division and 4-0 at home. All four of their home wins this season were double-digit wins. Last week, they almost lost to the interesting East Carolina Pirates 46-43. The Bearcats were down 40-28 going into the fourth quarter and pulled off the win. Quarterback Desmond Ridder went 12 for 24, for 161 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Cincinnati will look to get an easy win this week
According to Cincinnati.com, The Enquirer, running back Tavion Thomas is transferring:
"Salty that it had to come to this .. but I will be transferring from the University of Cincinnati," Thomas wrote on Twitter. "I appreciate the love and support that y’all gave me while I was here."
The Bearcats are a very balanced team. This team gets about the same production in passing and rushing yards. Michael Warren II has rushed for 639 yards and seven touchdowns this season. Look for Cincinnati to have a good mix of rushing the ball early and running up the scoreboard. Ridder will look to have a more efficient game with his passes and stack up those touchdown passes. This will be a good game for the Bearcats to tighten up that defense.
The top supporting trends for Cincinnati, found on Covers.com, are:

- Huskies are 4-21-1 ATS in their last 26 games on fieldturf.

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The Bearcats have a big spread to cover and even though they were sloppy against some below average teams, they will be able to cover this line. This team is going for an AAC title and UConn can try to play the spoiler role, but that won't happen. Cincinnati only has a few huge blowout wins this seasons, but UConn has been blown out by some average teams. Imagine how the Huskies will fair against a ranked Bearcats team. Plus in the head to head, Cincinnati has covered seven of the last nine spreads against UConn. This is one final tune up game for the Bearcats, before facing some decent competition to end the regular season. Look for a turnaround from the offense and defense.
Prediction: Cincinnati Bearcats -35
Full-Game Total Pick
This game will go over and the Bearcats will be the reason they hit the over/under. Against below average teams, Cincinnati scores around 40 points, but against cellar teams, they will go over 50 plus points. Meanwhile, UConn usually gives up around 5o points against good teams and they will score one or two touchdowns. The Huskies have scored 17 points or less four times this season and they couldn't do much against #25 Navy. Bearcats win 56-14.
Prediction: Over 55.5
