We have NCAA football on a Friday night when the Kansas Jayhawks head east to do battle with the Boston College Eagles. This is the first meeting for the two schools and Eagles Head Coach Steve Addazio is 20-8 against non-conference teams but just 2-7 against Power Five non-conference universities. Kansas has lost 18 of the last road openers and newly appointed Head Coach Les Miles is hoping to change that trend.
The Jayhawks are 1-1 this season and enter this contest coming off a horrible 12-7 loss to the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers. Boston College is 2-0 on the young season and enters this contest on a high after smashing Richmond by a score of 45-13 last Saturday.
The weather calls for sunny skies and temps in the upper 60’s at kickoff time!
Kansas Lays Stinker Against Coastal Carolina
Kansas was awful last Saturday against Coastal Carolina and racked up just 280 total yards at home against the Chanticleers. That is far less than the 324 total yards they achieved opening day against a much better Indiana State Sycamores football team. Maybe they overlooked Coastal Carolina, maybe not but if what we saw last week is the real Kansas Jayhawks then they will be in big trouble on the road against the Boston College Eagles on Friday night.

Junior running back Pooka Williams was suspended for the Coastal Carolina and returns to hopefully give the Jayhawks lethargic offense a boost. Williams rushed for 99 yards on 22 attempts against Indiana State and his presence was missed last Saturday against Coastal Carolina.
Senior quarterback Carter Stanley is coming off a rough game, throwing for 107 yards on 13-19 passing with two touchdowns and two interceptions. Stanley will need to keep accuracy in mind Saturday against a Boston College defense with five-picks over their two games this season.
Kansas isn’t dealing with any major or significant injuries for their matchup with Boston College.
The Jayhawks allow an average of 14.5 points per game, but they are up against a Boston College offense that scores an average of 40 points with 328 total yards per game. 250 of those Boston College yards come on the ground and Kansas did a lousy job against the rush last Saturday, allowing the Chanticleers to rush for 172 yards. The Kansas defense had better be up to the task of stopping the Eagles rushing game otherwise they face getting blown out on Friday night.
Eagles Fast 2-0 Start
Boston College comes into this game in fine form after winning their first two home games off the season. The Eagles score an average of 40 points per game and allow 20.5 points this season. Both of their wins have been at home where they’ve racked up 950 total yards this season. Boston College opened ACC play with a solid, 35-28 win over Virginia Tech and followed that up with a 45-13 thrashing over Richmond.

Junior quarterback Anthony Brown has completed 23-40 passes for 438 yards and five touchdowns without an interception but has been sacked once this season. Brown has rushed for an additional 36 yards with one touchdown on 10 attempts this season.
The Eagles get it done on the ground with three running back with over 100 rushing yards; junior running back AJ Dillon leads the way with 167 rushing yards and three touchdowns on 40 attempts and sophomore running back David Bailey has 135 rushing yards and one touchdown on 25 carries this season.
Freshman speedster Zay Flowers has rushed for 90 yards on three attempts for a touchdown and has snagged two passes for 91 yards and a receiving touchdown this season.
If Boston College has an Achilles Heel, it’s their defense; the Eagles defense returned just three starters from a 7-5 team that qualified for the canceled First Responder Bowl. The Eagles allow 20.5 points and 403 yards per game this season with nearly 250 passing yards per game. If the Eagles are going to win this game, they will need to keep Stanley from going off and I suspect the Eagles pass rush with three sacks this season will give the senior quarterback fits on Saturday.
Coach Addazio talks about the short week.
“When you have these short weeks, you’ve got to get going right away,” head coach Steve Addazio said. “You can’t spin your wheels on Sunday, for example. We got in here very, very early in the morning (on Sunday), got the film graded, got right to Kansas. Then the players came in. You don’t want to short-change a win, but you can’t spend all day on the win.”

Full-Game Side Bet
This is a toughie because it’s hard to trust the 0-2 Jayhawks who now must hit the road against the 2-0 Boston College Eagles. The schools haven’t played each other yet so we don’t have history to look at or rivalry issues to address.
What we do have is two football teams that aren’t considered defensive-minded in the least against a pretty good Boston College offense and a mediocre Kansas offense.
I don’t see how the Jayhawks defense is going to stop the Eagles high flying offense on Friday night. Just can’t see it as they barely held Coastal Carolina in check and got smacked in the nose by Indiana State and Boston College is heads and tails better than either school Kansas lost to at home.
I’m laying the 21.5 and flying with the Eagles on Friday night.
Prediction: Boston College -21.5 Points
Full-Game Total Pick
I like the over whenever two teams with limited defenses meet in NCAA tackle football games. Kansas tries to play defense but they are up against a very solid Boston College offense scoring 40 points per game at home this season. Kansas tries to play offense but can’t seem to get out of their own way.
I also don’t see Kansas doing much offensively in this one. The return from suspension of Williams might help some but Stanley throws a funny ball and it seems like the Eagles defense likes to chase interceptions. They’ll have opportunities to do just that against Stanley and Kansas.
My math says 42- 17 Boston College and that does look about right. It also is 5.5 points higher than the total.
I’m planning on playing the OVER on Friday night!!
Prediction: Over 52.5 Points
