The #2 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide head to Columbia, South Carolina to take on the South Carolina Gamecocks in a Southeastern Conference (SEC) matchup. The Crimson Tide are looking to make it 16 consecutive SEC road opening victories and South Carolina has won three of their last five meetings with Alabama.
The Crimson Tide bring their #2 ranked NCAA tackle football team to South Carolina riding a two-game winning streak and coming off a 62-10 home beatdown over the New Mexico State Aggies. South Carolina is 1-1 on the young season and destroyed Charleston Southern by a score of 72-10 for their first victory of the season.
The SEC is back for another season and I’m looking forward to discussing this game with you on Wednesday!
Alabama Rolls to 2-0 Record
The second-ranked Crimson Tide opened their season with a pair of wins with their most recent being a 62-10 beatdown over the New Mexico State Aggies. Six Alabama players scored touchdowns led by junior wide receiver Jerry Jeudy and his three touchdowns and 103 receiving yards. New Mexico State managed just 262 total yards against the stifling, Alabama defense. The victory gives the Crimson Tide a 2-0 record and now readies itself for SEC play and a matchup with South Carolina on Saturday.

Junior quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has thrown for 563 yards and seven touchdowns and rushed for an additional 48 yards and one touchdown this season. He’ll be up against a South Carolina defense allowing 220 passing yards per game and he and Jeudy should have a field day against the Gamecocks on Saturday.
Junior running back Najee Harris has rushed for an average of 60 yards per game on limited snaps and he’s up against a Gamecocks defense allowing 4.08 yards per carry and 155 rushing yards per game. Look for Alabama backs Kellen Robinson and Henry Ruggs III to do some damage against South Carolina on Saturday.
South Carolina Smashes Charleston Southern 72-10
South Carolina is off to a 1-1 start to their 2019 season and is coming off their first win of the season last Saturday against the Buccaneers of Charleston Southern. Freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski threw for 282 yards and two touchdowns, freshman running back Kevin Harris rushed for 147 yards and three touchdowns and senior wide receiver Bryan Edwards hauled in five passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns in the 72-10 rout over the Buccaneers.
A thing of beauty!

Hilinski had a nice football game in his starting debut against Charleston Southern, but now he’s up against a Crimson Tide defense allowing just 129 passing yards per game this season. Alabama also has three picks and one pick-six this season and Hilinski is about to get a real welcome into NCAA FBS football on Saturday.
Harris is also in for an interesting time against Alabama and their 104 rushing yards allowed per contest this season. Granted, those numbers were against cupcakes but so was the numbers Harris put up. Harris is a nice back with a seemingly bright future but will face a real test against the Crimson Tide on Saturday afternoon.
Will Muschamp on what he learned from working with Nick Saban.
“I learned a lot. Obviously from a scheme standpoint you have to be philosophically aligned with him as far as how he sees the game played, offense, defense and special teams. Obviously from a scheme standpoint I learned a lot. The evaluation process and the recruiting – as far as the critical factors we look for and define for every position. I think we took that even a step further when I went to the Miami Dolphins and was a part of the draft, going in and working players out and really narrowing down exactly what we look for by position. The evaluation process I think has really helped me and our programs moving forward. As far as an offseason program, we do very similar things – how we install in training camp, how we install in spring ball, how we do spring ball. Our summer programs are very similar as far as the players are concerned and what we do. How we practice is very similar to what we did when I was with Nick. We’ve carried over a lot of things that obviously work extremely well. I learned a lot.”

The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
The game opened at 21.5 points and now it’s here and while it’s tough to lay 25.5 points on the road, this is the Alabama Crimson Tide and they roll over people. Don’t let the 72 points the Gamecocks laid on Charleston Southern fool you; this is a very young football team at home against one of the best teams in the country and they won’t be ready for the Tide or what a team like that brings to the table. Maybe someday down the road, but not Saturday.
Tagovailoa is a Heisman candidate who returned to school to win a National Championship and I doubt he and the rest of the Tide are going to allow South Carolina to stand in its way.
I expect a blowout and am laying the 25.5 points and playing Alabama to rout South Carolina on Saturday.
Prediction: Alabama -25.5 Points
Full-Game Total Pick
I honestly don’t see the Gamecocks defense stopping Alabama at all on Saturday and they could probably score 50 plus on their own Saturday afternoon. I say that because the Gamecocks looked awful against North Carolina and while they looked better in their 72-12 win last week, Alabama is no Charleston and they will score and score at will.
South Carolina has some talented offensive players and I do expect them to hit pay dirt at least twice and especially if South Carolina leaves their starters in against the Crimson Tide second and third-team defense.
I’m playing the OVER on Saturday afternoon!!
Prediction: Over 61.5 Points
