Maryland Terrapins vs. Temple Owls
NCAAF: Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 12:00 PM EST
Maryland is the 21st ranked team in the nation and 2-0 and they head to Temple playing with a tad of confidence. That is obviously sarcastic, as the Terps are not only 2-0, but they have won their games by a combined score of 172-20. Yeah, they have scored big. Not only did they put up 63 points in their last game but beat a ranked Syracuse team. Maryland looks to avenge last season’s 35-14 home loss to Temple.
Temple only has played one game and they won in a blowout facing a less than powerhouse program in Bucknell. They head into this game over a TD underdog and they not only beat Maryland in their house last season, covering the spread, but they have also covered the spread in six of their last eight games facing teams from the Big 10. Maryland is 4-0 ATS in their last four games at Temple.
Offense has been huge
The Terrapins have blown out of the gates this season scoring 79 points and 63 points, respectively, in winning their first two games. In their last game they were at home and took down a ranked Syracuse team beating them 63-20. The Terps jumped out big in that game outscoring the Orange 42-13 in the first half and for the game they had 650 total yards of offense. Josh Jackson passed for 296 yards with three TD and one pick and Darryl Jones led the team with 70 receiving yards. Javon Leake led the way with 107 rushing yards and Jake Funk had 97 rushing yards and each player reeled off a run of at least 54 yards.

Maryland rushed for 354 yards in the game and will face a Temple run defense that only gave up 21 yards in the ground in the easy win over Bucknell.
After three games Maryland has three players that have already rushed for at least 130 yards. In last season’s loss to Temple at home the Terrapins gave up 165 rushing yards and while they gave up 330 passing yards in the win over Syracuse, they only gave up 70 yards holding the Orange to a paltry average of 2.4 yards per rush. Maryland would have huge confidence if they win this game and they could use that since they open the Big 10 season in their next game hosting 13th ranked Penn State.
Twice in a row
Temple looks to upset Maryland twice in a row and this time around the game is in their house. They easily beat Bucknell 56-12 in their last game where they had nearly 700 yards of total offense and QB Anthony Russo, who did not play the entire game, passed for 409 yards with four TDs and was picked off once.

The WR duo of Brandon Mack and Jadan Blue combined for 247 receiving yards and at least five players had at least 61 receiving yards. In the win over Bucknell, the Owls rushed for 188 yards and Re’Mahn Davis and Jager Gardner led the way combining for 114 rushing yards and three TD.
This will be the Owls first look at Jackson under center for Maryland, as he is a first-year starter for them after transferring from Virginia Tech. Temple held Maryland to only 195 yards in last season’s win and only gave up 63 passing yards. They now face Jackson, who has a good WR corps and has passed for 541 yards with seven TD and only one INT through two games.
The Temple Owls are:
The Maryland Terrapins are:
- 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games in September
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Many of the betting trends point to Temple being the pick in this game and Maryland is 1-4 ATS in their last five games facing teams from the AAC and have failed to cover in their last four road games. Both of those trends will not continue in this non-conference affair. Do not look for Maryland to score a ton of points like they have in their first two games, but they will score quite a few and their defense will also play pretty well. Temple will give Maryland a game, but the Terps will pull away in the 2nd half and they will win, improve to 3-0 on the young season, and cover the spread.
Prediction: PICK: Maryland
Full-Game Total Pick
I do not see Maryland scoring over 60 points as they have in their first two games, but they will have another big game on the offensive side of the football. Temple will also get on the scoreboard quite a few times, but they will not light it up like their last game. Both teams won in blowouts in their last game and this game will be close and be an offensive game, which is why the Over is the smart pick.
Prediction: PICK: Over
