Oklahoma State Sooners vs. Tulsa Golden Hurricane
NCAAF: Saturday, September 14, 2019 at 12:00 PM EST
Oklahoma State is off to a solid 2-0 start where they scored at least 52 points in each of their first two games. However, in their first game they faced the weakest team in the Pac 12 in Oregon State and then in their last game beat up on McNeese, who are an FCS team. The Cowboys are 14-point road betting favorites in this game, and they could use some more confidence with a good win considering they begin Big 12 play in their next game hitting the road to face a ranked Texas team.
Tulsa was beaten badly in their season opener facing a top 25 team in Michigan State and in their last game beat San Jose State, who only had one win last season. The Golden Hurricane are looking to rebound after only winning three games last season and while they were 0-3 from Power 5 conference teams two of those three games were very close. The last time these teams met was in the 2017 season where the Cowboys crushed the Golden Hurricane beating them 59-24.
Offense has been there
The offense for Oklahoma State has been front and center in their last two games where they scored 56 points and 52 points respectively. In their last game they beat McNeese 56-14 where they racked up 580 yards but did have two turnovers and gave up 318 yards including 161 rushing yards.

Spencer Sanders passed for 250 yards with three TD and no INT and did not play the whole game. Tylan Wallace had a big game with 180 receiving yards with three TD and a 75-yard catch and the Cowboys rushed for 167 yards. Sanders is a freshman and rushed for 51 yards to lead OSU in the McNeese win and Chuba Hubbard rushed for 44 yards on only eight carries after exploding for 229 yards on 26 carries in the season-opening game against Oregon State. Tulsa’s pass D has not been great on the season, but their run defense has been pretty good holding San Jose State to 115 rushing yards and Michigan State to 108 rushing yards.
Big game on the ground
Tulsa got into the win column in their last game beating San Jose State 34-16 where they had 539 total yards and rushed for 256 yards. Shamari Brooks and T.K. Wilkerson combined to rush for 232 yards and three TD and the run game was a just a tad better than it was in the loss to Michigan State when they had -73 rushing yards, yes, not a typo, -73 rushing yards. Zach Smith was 21/28 for 283 yards with a TD and no picks and Sam Crawford Jr. had a big game with 137 receiving yards. Smith was not bad in the passing game in the loss to Michigan State and he will face an OSU pass defense that has some concerns and gave up 281 yards in the win over Oregon State.
Smith is a transfer from Baylor and sat out last season and he played for the Bears in 2017 and faced Oklahoma State in a poor performance where he was only 11/28 for 127 yards with no TD and was picked off once.
The Tulsa Golden Hurricane are:
- 3-10 ATS in their last 13 vs. Big 12
- 0-8 ATS in their last 8 games after allowing less than 20 points in their previous game
- 2-7 ATS in their last 9 games following an ATS win
The Oklahoma State Cowboys are:
- 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games
- 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games in September
- 20-8 ATS in their last 28 non-conference games
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
OSU has their issues on defense but come into this game confident on the offensive side of the ball after scoring at least 52 points in each of their first two wins. Tulsa won their last game and ran the ball well and while their offense may do OK in this one their defense will be torched. The Cowboys will light up the scoreboard and rack up a lot of yards both in the air and on the ground. They will move to 3-0 on the season with an easy win, even on the road, over Tulsa and cover the spread as well.
Prediction: PICK: Oklahoma State
Full-Game Total Pick
Oklahoma State has piled up the points in their two games this season and they will pile up the points in this one. They will also give up quite a few points with the suspect defense they have. Still, OSU will easily win behind their dynamic offense and with them lighting it up you have to go with the Over.
Prediction: PICK: Over
