Troy Trojans vs. Nebraska Cornhuskers
College Football Week 3: Saturday, September 15th 2018 12:00 PM EST TIME
The road warriors of Troy look to win their second game of the season as they hit the road and take on the Nebraska Cornhuskers. As for the Cornhuskers they are looking for a rebound game and hopefully stop starting the season 0-2 for the first time in over the past decade. Will history be written for the Cornhuskers on Saturday night.
Trojans looking for statement win
The Troy Trojans are heading on the road for the first time this season as they opened up the season with two home openers. They might be one the few teams coming into week 3 happy to be back on the road because of this historic winning streak. The Trojans have won five straight road games and that will play a huge part in this game as the Nebraska Cornhuskers have lost five straight home games. Giving the Trojans almost free double-digit points is almost a steal at this point. The momentum is with the Trojans and the trends are leaning that way too.
The Trojans come into this game with their leader and quarterback Kaleb Barker who has had an excellent start to the season. He is one of the main reasons why the Trojans will be able to move the ball downfield against a weak secondary of the Cornhuskers. On the season, Barker is completing 65 percent of his throws for a total of 351 passing yards. Also on the season, Barker has five touchdowns and one interception. His favorite targets being the following: Deondre Douglas and Damion Wills who have put on a show this season. They have combined for a total of 203 receiving yards out of the 351 total with four touchdowns.
Horrible Home Losing Streak
As stated above, the Nebraska Cornhuskers come into this game with one of the worst home records in the past seasons and that includes their current five-game losing streak at home. Even though they come into this game with the most potential having a better athletic team, they are not far away from losing this game. The only positive about this team so far is the running game. They need it to go above and behind against the Troy Trojans as the secondary of Troy will cause mayhem for opposing quarterback Adrian Martinez. First lets start with the successful running game. On the season, the ground game is led by quarterback Adrian Martinez as he is a dual threat quarterback. At the moment they are leading the way with averaging 329 yards per contest with Martinez leading the team with his own 117 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
The Cornhuskers need to establish a passing first offense on Saturday as the Trojans will be ready for the dual-threat QB. However, the part that concerns me the most about this Nebraska team is the amount of yards per game and points they allow. Coming into this game, the Cornhuskers allow an average of 33 points and 395 total yards per game
- Cornhuskers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last 6 non-conference games.
- Cornhuskers are 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games overall.
- Cornhuskers are 1-10-2 ATS in their last 13 home games.
- Cornhuskers are 0-6 ATS in their last 6 games on fieldturf.
- Trojans are 4-0 ATS in their last 4 games following a straight up win.
- Trojans are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 road games.
- Trojans are 6-1 ATS in their last 7 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
- Trojans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games after scoring more than 40 points in their previous game.
- Trojans are 5-1 ATS in their last 6 games overall.
- Trojans are 4-1 ATS in their last 5 games after accumulating more than 450 total yards in their previous game.
The Bottom Line What to bet on this game.
Full-Game Side Bet
Nebraska gives up way too many points to their opposing team as the Trojans will establish their passing game early in the season. The Trojans have been road warriors as they will surprise the Cornhuskers with their outside blitz’s to take out one of the factors of the dual-threat QB of Martinez. With the way Nebraska has been playing at home along with their only source of output being their QB, I might even suggest getting money line values on Troy.
Prediction: TROY TROJANS +9.5
Full-Game Total Pick
The Cornhuskers have hit the OVER in five of the past six games, and the past four straight at home. They give up a lot of points at home and face a Trojans team that is ready for an upset win. With Troy scoring an average of forty points this season, they will be able to get some back against the Cornhuskers.
Prediction: OVER 57.5
