Central Michigan Chippewas (2-0 SU, 1-1 ATS, 1-1 O/U) vs. Syracuse Orange (1-1 SU, 0-2 ATS, 0-2 O/U)
NCAAF: Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 3:30 p.m. ET Carrier Dome Syracuse, NY
The Line: Syracuse -10.5
Central Michigan has won their first two games of the season and beat Kansas from the Big 12 in their last game. They have given up 27 points in each of their first two games and put up 45 on Kansas last week. CMU are a double-digit road underdog in this game, but their last game facing Kansas they were on the road.
Syracuse beat a cupcake in their first game and then lost their last game to Middle Tennessee State. They could really use a win in this game, especially having to face a ranked LSU team on the road in their next game.
These teams met last in 2015 at Syracuse where the Orange beat the Chippewas 30-27 in OT.
Lighting it up in the air
In their last game, Central Michigan beat Kansas 45-27 where they lit up the Jayhawks in the air. They had 590 yards overall and forced two turnovers and held Kansas to 5 for 18 on 3rd downs. Shane Morris had a big game passing for 467 yards with five TD and no picks. Mark Chapman had 168 receiving yards and three TD and Corey Willis had 140 receiving yards and a TD. The Chippewas rushed for 129 yards led by Jonathan Ward, who had 59 rushing yards and averaged a solid 5.4 yards per carry. In Morris’ two games he has passed for 693 yards with six TD and one INT and it is key that the Orange pressure him and play better on pass D than they did in their last game where they gave up 269 passing yards.
Can’t take advantage of mistakes
Syracuse lost to Middle Tennessee State 30-23 in their last game where they could not take advantage of forcing three turnovers and MTS having more than 100 yards in penalties. Cuse turned the ball over twice and were outgained 363 yards to 308 yards. Eric Dungy passed for 180 yards with no TD and one INT and he was also the leading rusher with 53 yards, but only averaged 2.8 yards per carry. He left the game with a head injury and is questionable for this game and if he cannot go senior Zack Mahoney will get the start under center. The Orange allowed three passing TD in three straight drives in the loss to Middle Tennessee State and they cannot let that happen in this game.
The Central Michigan Chippewas are:
- 9-4 ATS in their last 13 non-conference games
- 8-1 ATS in their last 9 games in September
The Syracuse Orange are:
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 non-conference games
- 1-4 ATS in their last 5 games in September
- 1-5 ATS in their last 6 games overall
- 0-4 ATS in their last 4 home games
Syracuse has failed to cover the spread in their last four home games and in four of their last five non-conference games. They may get the win in this game, but they will not cover the spread. Central Michigan has a ton of confidence coming into this game and like the game facing Cuse in 2015 it will be close and they will at least cover getting 10.5 points.
